I have just finished 200 g rue extraction, realizing I spent over half kilo of salt (4 x 80 g for Manskes to get mixed harmala extract and further 2 x 50 g to get harmine.HCl).

Salt is cheap, but I am still concerned about throwing out that much salt after every single extraction (500 g salt just to get few grams of harmine).

Can the saline water be purified in some way, or the salt recovered?

I searched the internet but all I found is how to desalinate water but this obviously leaves all the impurities, not just salt.

Or maybe the freebase can be dissolved in small amount of acidic in ethanol, then evaporated the ethanol and any excess HCl giving harmala.HCl directly (no need for Manske)?
