Breakthrough doses of either 5-MeO-DMT or nn-DMT (the power and the glory) can reliably provide one trope which I can count on from one tryptamine exerience to the next. Curveballs. An element of "there's no way I could have expected that."
The Unpredictably Familiar.
There is no way one can plan on what the DMT or 5-MeO-DMT encounter will bring. New users will often ask “what can I expect from a DMT trip?” The answer is, there simply is no way to expect anything, and this goes even for the most seasoned DMT users you'll ever meet.
The narrative of "hyperspace" is well documented elsewhere, so I won't take time to go into that here, but it's my contention that this component really has little to do with what I receive as the most essential data one would hope to download from the tryptamine space.
Every time I go into the space, it is entirely something which I know I simply could not remember in the moments before going in, and yet at the heart of the paradox that is the DMTs - it’s so wildly familiar. I try so hard to recall it - but I know there’s always some component of the narrative - right after the breakthrough and right before the narrative of the trip I’m telling myself once I’ve returned - the meat of the trip is in that flash, the flash that takes you from guy with a pipe in his hand and transforms you into the mystic experiencing the word of god, or a shamanic trance state. The more the brain starts to shape conscious thought that resembles anything near an internal monologue, I’m already cycling down from the whole point of smoking any of the DMTs in the first place.
To describe the experience would be in the shape of a sawtooth wave, with an absolute peak moment which varies very little from experience to experience. That tidal wave of full-blown consciousness break via the DMTs - that split second exists forever in all directions, and it’s still happening now and always, and stops immediately once the mind begins to try and reason with just what’s happening - but that's also why we seem to know it so well.
