I've read as much as I can find on THP but I don't understand why it works better than 3x3 boils. There isn't much info on the method out there. I've read the wiki several times. I'm no scientist, but I'd like to understand the process more.

I have some vine to extract and plan on using the Gibran2 Easy Caapi Extraction Tek. I've done it previously with less than stellar results, but I blame my inexperience and possibly low alkaloid vine.

Also: I have shredded and powdered cielo vine. In the wiki there is some speculation that extraction from powdered vine may be more efficient. Has a consensus been reached on this or will I be the first to report back? I plan on extracting the two back to back using the sane method for comparison.

Thanks for your help.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

When Dagger presented his THP he advocated to not recycle same liquid trough the material. This means that the material gets constantly exposed no "fresh" non used (acidified) water. In a 3 x 3 boil the water gets only refreshed 3 times, in THP it is continuously refreshed. This might be a clue.
I've not THP-ed myself though.

Powder extracts faster, period.
Good trials wished...

The way i see it, is that powdered will always extract quicker because of the maximum exposed surface area. However probably freshly powdered is best in terms of actives.

With freshly powdered i expect 3x1 hour boils may be more than sufficient, however the key would be to not let the water boil down...That is for the refining (concentrating) process.

The THP requires a lot of water, so refining must take ages. The THP may have an edge probably because more fresh water can hold more actives...but i think for the extra work involved it may not be worth the hassle...

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to build one today and hopefully start an extraction. The volume of water doesn't bother me, and the reduction won't be a hassle in my eyes, hopefully Smile I see the work as important as the experience and the integration.
Also: I have some nice LeCruset cookware that conducts heat wonderfully, so the reduction will go well. I'll have to watch it closely as a matter of fact. I've been surprised by super fast reductions before. I grew up as the son of a cook, so I've spent untold hours on my feet in kitchens. My fear is clogged cotton filters.

Will report back with results soon.
