“Magic mushrooms grow in the places you would expect at the time of year they normally do”

First picture in the article doesn’t look much like libs to me though…

Oh man, so much misinformation... as you pointed out those aren't liberty caps, hopefully nobody goes and picks those mushrooms thinking that they are. Also amanitas/fly agarics don't contain any psilocybin or psilocin, and a one dose mushroom trip can not last 2 days, not unless you count the afterglow. Pleased

despite the fact that they can be found on public land, magic mushrooms are still illegal, and foragers caught picking the fungi could face the same criminal charges as heroin dealers

Although i can't see it actually happening anytime too soon, unfortunately that part is true. Confused

I would have to agree...there is no way you could trip on mushrooms for 2 days from one dosage. The only way that might even be possible is if you're on some serious medication to boot.

What a bizarre world we live in where you could go to jail alongside a heroin dealer for foraging wild mushrooms. Surprised Confused

It's highly irresponsible of the newspaper to show pictures of the incorrect mushrooms and label them as magic mushrooms (ok, so the picture is labelled "magic musgrooms" but that's not really the point).

Perhaps they want some kids to go out and poison themselves? Thumbs down

Bizarre indeed, although a first offence for simple possession would be unlikely to result in jail time.

Although you could theoretically get jail time for first offense possession in the U.S, what you'd likely get is probation and a felony conviction that would follow you the rest of your life. People here are irrationally afraid of psychedelics.

Yes, in the UK you could likewise theoretically get jail time for a first offence although application of the law often boils down to the discretion of the police officer involved. Many of them can't be bothered with the paperwork for this frankly preposterous "offence".

Even if it does get to court, if you've been found picking wild mushrooms ignorance is in this case a valid defence. That is, you didn't know what they were and hoped they were edible but needed to take them home for identification purposes.

This is based on a small amount of case knowledge, I'm not a lawyer so be careful and don't blame me if you end up in jail!
