Burning the locals, abusing the tourists, terrifying the help.

Hi all,

I'm knocking around the idea of doing a psychedelic podcast. So far dubbed "Shroom FM" with the tagline "Where shit gets weird", I basically want to do six-hour shows that someone on a trip could stick on in the background, plays through a ton of great tripping music, and also breaks it up with the occasional oddity here and there. I'll be talking on it, but using music beds as to not interrupt the flow, and will have only very small bits and pieces to say rather than a your regular radio DJ who just talks all the bloody time.

I just thought I'd get people's feedback, ie. what would they like on a show like that. Also, I'm looking for anyone who can make little jingles or funny little adverts or oddities (like a friend suggested having someone in between the songs confused saying something to the effect of "Who... what... where am I?" and then it going shroom FM - where shit gets weird and then going straight into the next track).

I'm picking six hours as that's the general length of a shroom trip, and figured you could do it so the first hour is quite chilled out and relaxing before shifting up a gear or ten for the 1-4 hour mark before coming back down again.

Thoughts?
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!โ€

This idea is brilliant IMHO...Smile

I'd definitely enjoy a long podcast like that, as I tend to listen to them at work. Perhaps now and then you could interview various nexus members, protecting their identity of course. Good luck on your endeavor

Hey I definitely have some audio equipment and can do some radio voices I'd definitely be down to record some adverts dripping with reverb, echo, and delay for all that mind melting goodness.

You could even send me your voice and I could chop it up and put effects on it.

Get in touch brother, great idea!
In the province of the mind what one believes to be true, either is true or becomes true within certain limits. These limits are to be found experimentally and experientially. When so found these limits turn out to be further beliefs to be transcended. In the province of the mind there are no limits. However, in the province of the body there are definite limits not to be transcended.-J.C. Lilly

Great feedback, guys.

Through my work, I can get in touch with the guys running trials and interview them, as well as interviews with you guys.

Only issue is I want less talking, more audio fun and games. I think break it up with quickfire interviews, maybe voxpop-style quick questions.

And yes - all the adverts/idents/etc people want to create are more than welcome! Just add the name of the station, and you are all set! Best to use a range of voices - I'm a well-spoken British male, so different accents etc are more than welcome. No Knowing, feel free to go right ahead. I'm building up a playlist for the first one, looking to record it at the end of May. If Nexians want to contribute, please get them over to me in the next three weeks.

I do think it'd be cool to have another station tuned more towards the type of listening that vibe with the psychedelic mindset but personally I'd feel better if you left out things like "Who... what... where am I?" that help perpetuate the concept that people that take psychedelics are a bunch of whacked out idiots.

I think it'd be more cool to have a station set more on the internal/learning aspects rather than the "hippie" aspects could be another way of phrasing it.

What kind of music are you going to play though exactly? What about licensing and royalties? If you're going about this legally it seems there'd be some work ahead or, do you intend on making your own music?

The last question is simply due to my line of work online and how sue-happy I know people can get.

Anyway, I'm just sharing honest feedback and response here so don't think I'm trying to rain on your parade so to say.
