Anyone seen this?

http://www.latimes.com/s...ion-20141209-story.html

Apparently, nitrous oxide has started to generate interest as a novel antidepressant. People first thought of it when they say that it shared NMDAR antagonist qualities with ketamine (which is another possible antidepressant that's picking up steam).

In a small pilot study, it worked better than a placebo.

(Slightly OT: what's the DMT/N2O combo like?)

Blessings

The chemical reactions that take place are actually quite interesting.. in terms of research and effects, leave us with a powerful medicine that is neuroprotective, but is also rewarding.

I think it enhances GABA by antagonists.

V B12 depletes through chronic use.. through much higher doses of course.

Thumbs up

I feel a particular someone in Nexus could indeed share results with nitrous and its effects on well-being.. I'm sure he'll be arund soon. Smile

It's weird, nitrous used to be absolute bliss for me but recent experiences have been unpleasant and left me derealized for a while afterward.

This is probably quite common considering its rapid effects on the body.. tolerance issues.

I didn't have tolerance... by used to I meant a few years ago. I hadn't had any until a couple months back I picked up some cartridges just because I saw them at the grocery store and that was when it stopped being fun.

In this article it says the subjects inhaled nitrous oxide for an hour, so maybe it's the difference between continuous administration mixed with oxygen and huffing pure nitrous out of a balloon. I guess the former would be more likely to cause smooth, pleasant euphoria than the latter, which hits (me) pretty hard with dissociation and mild psychedelia.

Who would've thought nitrous gets rid of depression? Laughing

Some of those nitrous cartridges are impure and are probably not good to inhale. There are different "grades" of gas, I can't remember much about this but you want medical or lab grade I believe. But yeah I don't think those cartridges are gunna kill ya but some brands will leave an oily residue in the "cracker"..

Personally I love nitrous but it is addictive and I can't see any real reason for using it other than wanting to get very high. Some people talk about OBE's and stuff like that from nitrous but I've never experienced anything like that. Nitrous can go very well some other psychedelics and I thought it was pretty amazing during a lower dose of lsd.

Nitrous Oxide always gave me a pretty profound experience. Never tried with a tank but the balloons if you do them back to back have taken me to pretty crazy places. No OBE's or things like that, the open eye visuals are always a little interesting. But just the pure intensity of the wah wah's always help bring me to the now. Maybe not really anti-depressant but if I wanna blow my mind, take a couple of those. And I get this really crazy sense of dejavu every time I take them, which is similar to a DMT experience.

Weirdest experience though, I took some nitrous on a pretty high dose of LSD and I went into this perma-grin state for the duration where I couldn't stop smiling even if I tried not to, it just made it bigger and made me laugh a ton. The perma-grin was kind of scary though, the acid had me thinking I would never be able to change that and I would walk around with a dumbass grin on my face forever.
