My Grandma Millie had debilitating Alzheimer's that ran her life for 10+ years. First, she started telling nonsensical stories, then she seemed less and less lucid. The last years were spent in a nursing home in constant suffering. She was in pain (being in her 90s), but lacked understanding, and was often in fear. The memory of her sweetness made this all the more horrific. She came from a family of 13 and grew up during the Great Depression. She raised 5 children, but was one of the first women to work a job out of the house in the 1930s. One day she passed in her sleep. Very soon after, I found this article! I believe more than her award winning chili recipe lived on...

Whether you believe it or not, I think no one more deserved a lifetime as a pampered and adventurous house pet. The cat Millie seems to have all of her sweet tendencies and tenacity. It gives me hope for the idea that Earth can be a peaceful and therapeutic destination for all.
