I've been doing chi kung for about 15 years, so I must be full of demons.
My uncle is red sash in Tang Shao Tao Kung Fu, who learn't the fighting side of Tai-Chi (basically Tai-Chi sped up to give you an idea). We have had many discussions on "Chi" energy.
As such, he doesn't believe in "Chi" being some magical force you pull up out of the earth and into your body, extending out to your fingers etc, even thou this is what he imagines when going through certain motions.
It just so happens that most Chinese teachings of martial arts goes with philosophical teachings. But these need to be treated independently (such as religion and morality) IMO
