The power of a kiss.

Its awesome seeing the awkwardness at first, and then you see how powerful a kiss can be to create a bond between even two strangers.

Sudden boundary dissolution is a powerful thing, as many of us here know. This video really got me. I think it's really psychedelic, but most people probably won't get that.

Very touching. I love this idea, and it is amazing to see how quickly a visible connection between the two people can develop from a simple act of physical contact. Thanks for sharing, anrchy!

Bizarre.

How much does the fact that they are being videotaped change the resulting "feeling?"

I've seen stranger kisses go well and also not really turn out great.
Although a New year's kiss from a stranger has been up there with the best of them.

Yes.

I am sorry for being an emotional philistine but watching a load of "awkward" photogenic model types chewing each other"s faces off depressed the hell out of me. It looked like an instant coffee advert. If there were a few overweight, middle aged plebs scattered amongst the beautiful people it would have made it more of an interesting concept.

What exactly did you find "beautiful" about these painfully ordinary people? Personally, I got disgusted about a minute into the video and did not watch these folks kissing. Is the next step to this video to show how two people who've never met have sex? Oh, wait, there are porn sites for that.

Oh c"mon! Purely on a superficial level (which is the only level that we can measure their ordinariness, or lack thereof) i would have been happy to stick my toungue down any of their throats after a minute"s conversation (in the interests of social experimentation).

If you think they all look painfully ordinary then you must live in coffee ad land aswell. Or maybe i just live in a region where the average person has a face like a bulldog licking piss off of a stinging nettle.

I'm not sure what you mean by coffee ads.......I'm not familiar........ There was one dude on the video I saw who looked pretty close to middle aged, with glasses, messy hair and wrinkles. I thought one of the girls was pretty, all the others seemed pretty plain.....the girls where I live are much better looking...on average......

Though it would've made a better video with a more diverse crowd, I agree with you on that. Get like a ridiculously hot nineteen year old college girl paired up with a fifty year old obese man with no teeth. That would be hilarious......though I suppose they weren't trying for humor.....

Speaking as a man who is approaching fifty with missing teeth and a weight problem i do not necessarily see the hilarity in that scenario. But i do think that it would have added a bit more credence to the power of an intimate moment if said obese 50 year had transcended certain superficial values with an expressive kiss.

Sorry, homie, I didn't mean any offense by that.......I often forget that there are other people here other than skinny dudes in their thirties.

**edit......... Wow, hehehe, that coffee ad.....I've been commercial tv-free since 2003, so I'm way out of touch with the adverts. Though, that ad clearly predates 2003. I was amused to see Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer in that ad.

Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but you all know that this is a commercial for a clothing line that was released in hopes of going viral just prior to fashion week, yes?

Hilarious. I knew there was a reason I couldn't make it past a minute of this atrocious video. Thanks for inside scoop.

Why am i not surprised? I still say bring the old fat (and thin) people into the mix.

No offence taken; my weight problem is that i am too thin. I have always wanted to be fat.

UPDATE: It appears this video was initially intended as a clothes advertisement. Additionally, some of the "strangers" are professional performers.

Did a search and looks like you are correct. I was not aware. Still the idea is the same. I had posted a while back a similar video of strangers posing in an intimate fashion. That one was legit and show the same awkwardness between two strangers and how our social bubbles can be broken easily with a little push.

112233: not sure what you found atrocious, even if it was intended to be an ad or what have you it still shows the beauty of letting go of ones apprehension towards others.

I find most advertising gimmicks atrocious and manipulative. My finely-honed, somewhat cynical BS Detector rang pretty loudly when I only saw 60 seconds of this.

And considering this is a staged video with actors, I don't see how this shows the beauty of letting go of apprehension towards others; it shows amateur actors performing a scripted video to create the illusion of letting go. I guess it only really shows that acting is powerful, and if it's done well enough, people will think it's real. Like when Orson Wells read War of the Worlds on the radio and people panicked thinking it was real (I think it was Wells, anyway, close enough).

Considering there is a thread about this Commercial on a DMT forum, I'd say the video director should smile slyly and pat himself on the back for hood-winking the unsuspecting public. All for "fashion": translation: EGO, the antithesis of DMT.

I understand the spirit in which you posted this, Anrchy, and I hope you know I'm not picking on you in any way, just advertising in general (which is a necessary evil, I understand; I'll be forced to do a little manipulative advertising myself for my project).

I actually find this even more interesting than I found the video originally. The reason for this is that the shots are so distinctly focused on the kisses, that I did not even notice the clothing that the people were wearing. Not even for a second.

I don't really understand what this video has to do with clothing/fashion/etc...

EDIT: I would also be interested to see what it would look like if someone took this idea and actually did it with strangers, who were not actors, and then compare and contrast the two videos.

What it says to me about fashion is that, if you wear fashionable clothes, good looking strangers will find you attractive and kiss you after 2 minutes of conversation.

Anrchy i have always thought you have a good head on your shoulders and i will admit to making some fairly dire posts in my time but Justin Bieber a couple of weeks ago? and now this??? Ha! One of the few times I've seen the level of ugliness in a thread on the NEXUS beat the level of ugliness on the comments on Huffington Post, where I first encountered the video. An interesting phenomena, considering that the comments on Huffington Post are usually at the very least, peppered with hideous human ugliness.

I understand that this is part of an advertising campaign. I didn't know that at first. Now that I know, I don't care. Maybe some of you live off the grid in a deep counterculture well, where nothing "commercial" can penetrate your dome of coolness. Maybe some of you are hardened against emotion manipulation via film, from your time spent as hyperspace warriors. Maybe you only buy food without packaging and albums by bands that are too cool to even consider being on an indie label. Maybe you've abandoned all of the low level concerns of the monkey mind and your souls are speaking though your top chakra, directly to the nexus, with no need for electricity from an evil energy company, to power your home-brew computer that you built out of used birds nests and recycled meteorites, bypassing the need for an ISP that runs on money from the manipulation of those lower monkeys who are involved enough to be touched by football games and box office hits. Personally, I've gone in the other direction.

This little film was made by a person (or several) who had an idea, or was fed an idea. I don't know. I guess they are sellouts. There are several subjects in the film, some of the professional actors. I imagine that in some of your minds, they have diminished themselves by participating in this exercise. Why don't you call them up and tell them of the disappointment they've generated in you. I'm sure they are all wallowing in misery already, because they had too stoop so low as to earn a paycheck in a manner not approved of by the psychedelic elite. In this economy, I'm sure they could have found much more honorable ways to earn a quick buck.

Sorry for the rant, but this isn't the kind of reaction I would have expected a film like this to generate on the Nexus. I'm disappointed. Someone in this thread said something like: "What's next? Porno on the Nexus?" That kind of high flung hyperbole made me want to respond with the same.

Don"t apologise for ranting. My comments, although a little cynical, are meant in jest.

It has nothing to do with me wanting to make a computer out of a birds nest. I do understand the concept behind the video but it is an advert and, like most adverts, is primarily designed to seduce the watcher with false promises and is completely removed from reality.

I do not mind how they earn their paychecks. I think that it is a very creative industry but there is nothing wrong with seeing this video for what it really is (branding, marketshare), rather than what it has been presented as.

That's funny: the above quoted post is actually the meanest of the bunch. I didn't think any of the other posts, mine included, were "hateful". I don't watch commercial tv, not because I live in a bunker deep within the Saskatchewan crust, being an off-the-grid hate machine for pop culture: I stopped watching tv because commercials make me physically disgusted and rather than absorb all that disgust year after year, fermenting and stinking, I opted to extract my attention from those things.

"Someone in this thread said something like: "What's next? Porno on the Nexus?" That kind of high flung hyperbole made me want to respond with the same."

You are obviously talking about me. I'm a big boy, you can just come out and say it. First off, this isn't a very long thread, you don't need to be lazy and give your own false interpretation of my words, which, incidentally are quoted here: "Is the next step to this video to show how two people who've never met have sex?" . . . . . So I said nothing about "Porn on the nexus"; it was an indictment of the posted gimmicky video itself and logical next steps.
