Life is a dream, the heart a compass

Yesterday I reluctantly agreed to help my mum cut down a 60+ year old tree. I was pretty upset about it and gave her a hard time but she couldn't do it on her own.

After all the branches were cut down there was just a trunk left standing around a meter tall. My mother was 3/4 through the width of the trunk when she told me to push the trunk so it was lifted up off the blade of the chainsaw. (Big mistake, I should have known better as I've worked with chainsaws before)...
As she proceeded to finish the cut the chainsaw recoiled backwards and ended up tearing through my clothes and flesh in the lower abdomen.
I was stunned and couldn't really process anything so I just stood there while my mum desperately tried to tear my clothes out from inside the chainsaw.

What made me so inclined to share this story was- everything became peacefully muted and quiet and I was getting tunnel vision. But the tunnel wasn't dark, it was bright and almost had a mythical sparkle to it- everything was glowing. I could feel a gentle pull towards the center of this tunnel similar to your first inhale of DMT. It was actually very beautiful. This feeling faded within a few seconds and I realized I wasn't dead.

I was incredibly lucky, the chainsaw had bounced as it made contact with my skin and made mince meat out of the surface of the skin but didn't damage any organs.

To be that close to death is strange...if it had ended there, I would have to say life feels like a very elaborate dream.

I feel sad that I got all the attention and the tree was forgotten. Life is life. I'd rather the tree live.

At first when I read the title, and you said you had a near-death experience but no breakthrough, I was thinking that near death experiences are the breakthrough, but then I read your story and it made sense.
