I'll start off with, I have a cat. He's is my best friend. He gets real crazy like cats do. His biggest thing is opening cupboards and drawers. Its so bad that I have had to install child safety latches on most of them throughout the house.

He is also very talkative, and has different tones for different meanings. He literally can communicate what he means very easily. He has a sound for good morning as he jumps on the bed to wake me up. He has a couple for hello. He def has a wine when he wants outside and has a sound for when i forget to fill his food dish in the morning.

I love him so much!

Poison dart frogs

I have a dog & 2 Cockatiels.

The dog is a crossbred mongrel. We kicked him out when he learned how to open the fridge and steal food.

We live in a rough neighborhood, so we need a watchdog and he does a pretty good job at that.

We chose him after my 2 year old son crash tackled him and pinned him down with a choker hold when we were looking for pups. The dog struggled a bit and then just licked my sons' face when he realised he was trapped, we didn't want an aggressive dog around the kids so we brought him home.

He went off the rails after we kicked him out and destroyed a heap of my potted plants, he also turned my vege garden into an archaeological dig until I got an electric fence.

Now he just digs up the rest of the yard.

He's one of the smartest dogs I've ever owned though, I should make a vid of him doing his tricks.

I think the birds (Cockatiels) are psychic, either that or they have supersonic hearing

Whenever my missus or myself sneeze the birds react with a specific whistle. They used to do the whistle as a reaction when we had them inside before the kids were born. Whenever either one of us would sneeze the birds would seemingly mimic the ah-choo with a two tone whistle. Over time (one of the birds is almost 20 years old) the reaction drifted to a reaction to the ah phase of the sneeze and then it got to the point where the birds would whistle before the sneeze.

Obviously there is a tone produced pre-sneeze as the sneezer involuntarily draws in a breath prior to sneezing, so the birds could be picking up on that and reacting, but they still make the sneeze pre-emptively now we've moved them outside. They've even done it (pre-emptively) when the sneezer has called home & sneezed - to a fixed handset with no speakerphone, so I can't see how they could hear that ???

The birds are like a miniature Cockatoo, and I've seen a few trained to talk (mimic) but mine never have. They will come and land on my finger (when I let them come inside) to a specific whistle I make and let me scratch them. I got to the stage where all I had to do was hold my finger up and visualise them on my finger and one would come and land my finger.

Great pets but they shit all over the place and have been known to cause respiratory problems so they got kicked out when the kids were born.

Scares the local cat population! Not to be trifled with! Shits on his own doorstep!

Oh OKAY! Now I feel like a turkey.

My boy brought home 5 chicks from school. 4 turned out to be cockerels. I made it clear they would have to go when they cock-a-doodle-doo'd.

I thought a good lesson would be to show my boys the valuable and under-taught experience of where meat comes from. It took me an age to convince my wife. My 5 year old was all for it. My 7 year old wanted nothing to do with it (and I had to respect that).

The bird started making noise. I gave it a few days grace. Neighbours started talking. Sun rise was at 4:30am. Cock-a-doodle-doo'ing commenced at 4:30am.

I took this birds life with a sharp knife in front of my wife and my youngest boy. There was not one iota of fun or pleasure about it. It is and it was a horrible business. I eat far less meat and should eat even less.

The other three birds had to go, but not by my hand.

We have one egg layer left.

Wow, What a substance! I respect you for teaching/showing your children where the food one picks off the shelf actually comes from. It is something us humans tend to put in the back of our minds. If you don't mind me asking, how did your 7 year old react when you did the deed?

In respect to the poll- I chose "cat and dog". Both have their own personalities and are very therapeutic in their own right. Very special relationships grow with these creatures. I never liked cats much when I was younger, but since my girlfriend and I brought in a stray, I have grown to LOVE them loads. Such funny and vocal animals... our one in particular. She is like a dog in many ways

Thanks for explaining the story behind that, what a substance. Its true that we tend to neglect where our food actually comes from, and how it gets there...which leads to all sorts of crazy problems. Good for you for being open to showing your kids the truth if they wanted to know. And take solice in the fact that it would have died a much more painful death had it grown up in a factory farm.
