Earlier I was talking about Lactuca in a PM conversation. It is a very interesting botanical. I'd really like to obtain A LOT of Lactuca virosa (true form) seeds, pure Lactuca virosa plant latex collected from the broken stems as well as an organic cold alcohol extract containing nothing but Lactuca virosa aerial plant-material and pure alcohol. Extracting from its white goo is the only way to go, so I'm told. Score the stem to make it bleed, and collect later. I have smoked it (ouch) [EDIT:sorry here I meant the leaves not the extract], and eaten huge (bitter) salads of the leaves, to no effect (just to save anyone else from similarly futile experiments!). I've made an alcohol extract using either IPA or ethanol. Both have been quite effective for both pain relief and potentiating opiates. My wife had a really horrible tooth ache. Two bowls full of the gooey extract and her tooth felt better. Also a tea made from the stems and leaf will knock her out cold. It is a subtle feeling unless a lot is taken. It won't get you high, but does kill pain and is very sedative. Personally I find that orally works better than smoked, but the effects are slightly different. Smoking is very, very slightly euphoric while oral provides more pain relief and sedation. I've never had a chance to try the resin straight from the plant unfortunately. The Spice extends life

I'd like to get some of that pharmaceutical grade organic alcohol and about 10 ounces of Lactuca virosa, soak it for two week in a cool dark place, strain and then evaporate the alcohol VERY slowly under cool conditions. Anybody know what the toxicity of Lactuca is? Does it have any negative health effects from it's use?
