Good evening, everyone!

(Note: I did try searching, but the search kept saying "error in database" no matter what I searched. If these questions have been posted before, I apologize.)

I have been experimenting with the spice for a few days now, and I have a few questions. First off, do you think it's better to trip with or without music?

I've mostly tripped with a background of Flying Lotus radio or Aphex Twin radio on Pandora, and it seems to be dictating my trips. Without music, though, it's a little scarier.

What's your opinion?

Second: I've been using the original VG with a pile of freeze precipitated spice. The only problem is I'm going really far, but not breaking through. the furthest I've gotten is to a strange mindscape I seemed to be flying through, but from what I've read a breakthrough is unmistakable.

I'm loading as much into the VG as I can, with a small layer of MJ underneath to catch some of the melting, and I proceed to vape until I can't physically lift my arms, but I still only reach this strange flying place.

Also, occasionally, I'll start tripping, put the VG down, and then immediately sober up to almost normal level with some odd thoughts and minor visuals.

Any advice? Thanks!

Me I like music, much like you said I find you can use it to almost guide your experience. I have also tried music off and feel it takes on a more wild and chaotic effect.

Music seems to keep you somewhat grounded though, I find making it slightly harder to breakthrough and music with vocals in I find it's impossible. Just do your own experimenting and see what works for you best.

I use a glass Vapor Genie and find I have no trouble breaking through when I choose. They do take a little skill to get right and you should put a piece of steel wool under the bowl to catch any deserters that try to escape.
Also some people find that Cannabis deadens the experience as a whole so that may be whats blocking you. Try using some other herb like mint or just put a nice layer of ash in the bowl.

It does take some practice to actually get through. Try to relax your body and mind and not focus on the things you see, don't hold on to them let them pass. It gets easier with practice but I have faith you'll get their.

Happy Travels.

I used music about the first 50 times, it lets you know that you are still alive. Without the music it is scarier, , but will teach you WAY more, I promise! I no longer use it at all, but I suppose if it helps you in the beginning...

Use a 'volcano vaporizer easy valve liquid pad' (Found on Ebay, 5 bucks for 2) in your GVG so you no longer need mj or any other kind of cushioning. Just cut to fit. Works perfectly for a year or years.

Meditate before you venture, take it seriously, use it as medicinal—it is good psychotherapy if needed. Realize that you, the Earth, others, and the Universe are all one and the same process. Then take that knowledge back to become, as you already are, one with nature. Eternity in every moment. Divinity in every particle. All is one organism.

That's exactly what I do. I second this motion.

I definitely recommend trying more silent trips and listening to the carrier wave/sounds of that dimension. A LOT can come from it. But music can be great at times to. Although i prefer it for non-breakthrough doses or oral trips personally.

If your having trouble breaking through i'd forget the MJ and maybe just use a bed of mullein..or nothing if you get the technique down good. Get some screens (6 or more)... or make a chore boy copper mesh screen...or liquid pad as someone mentioned

Also, use a torch or grill lighter. They're hotter work much better than a typical bic lighter...especially for a VG, which is a bit harder to get the hang of/heat up than a GVG.

There are two issues with the bed of MJ; first of all, the weed may not muddy the experience- you'll read mixed reviews on that one- but it definitely messes with your recall, which is tricky enough as it is (think of how hard it is to recall the details of a truly surreal dream). I've had some trips where the MJ seemed to brighten things, others where it seemed to add a layer of brown mud over the whole scene. But the recall issue is big. Anyway, that's problem number 1. Number two is that you are filling your lungs with smoke that is mostly not DMT vapor, so they end up being weaker hits, content-wise. The weed can burn faster than the DMT, causing the crystal to melt and drip. I usually use MJ ash over a clean screen, with another layer of ash over the spice, which prevents burning. This produces thick white vapor.

Music will definitely affect the flavor of your trip. If you need to use music to mask the ambient city sounds or whatever, choose it very carefully and deliberate rather than leaving it up to pandora to decide. Try music without lyrics, a nice soundscape. (Spongle?) my personal favorite background soundscape is nighttime nature sounds: frogs, crickets. I can still hear my breathing within this tapestry, which is reassuring.

Keep on trying. Remember that each experience is exactly what it is meant to be; don't dismiss them for not feeling like breakthroughs. Try to make the most of each one, and you'll eventually perfect your technique and gain the access you're hoping for. Be patient in the meantime and enjoy the journey.

My best advice would be once you feel that heaviness come over, and when you think you can't muster another hit, take one more long and slow toke, taking in as much as you can. That surely should induce a breakthrough.

Personally i would skip using the VG and acquire a normal marijuana pipe, load a bed of herb in the bowl, sprinkle a bunch of dmt on top, then lightly cover the top with more herb. Light the top layer of herb, drag it real slow to get a cherry going on top, exhale the smoke from the herb, then start taking long/slow hits (2-3). Hold each for 10+ seconds. Once you really start to feel as if you couldn't take another hit, take one more massive toke and you should be well on your way.

And as far as music goes, i typically listen to some electronic/ambient at a low volume. The right music imo evokes the right emotions, which in turn facilitate an amazing synergistic experience with the spice. Sometimes though, I like to smoke in complete silence, and dissolve into the the symphony of vibrations.

much love,
tat

good morning Enter_The_void, how ya doing?

I starterd out as a no music journeyer but after a couple of years I have moved into the music camp.

The choice of music is very very important though, I like to listen to Psybient stuff like Shulman, Entheogenic or Stellardrone anything else doesn't cut the mustard, as others have said vocals aint the best thing as its pretty distracting.

anyway, give it a try with and without and then when you decide which you prefer don't forget to check its still your preferred method a year or so down the line.

it's all in your mind, but what's your mind???

Thanks for all the replies, everyone!

I think I must have been having a minor mental block, because ast night I had a minor breakthrough, and my gosh was it breathtaking. I know that there's still so much further to go and more to learn, but now I know that I can and that I know how to.

This time I put the spice on top of some already vaped MJ, which I believe cut down the vaporized THC content. (I know it's silly, but I don't like the idea of laying it on ash in my nice new VG.)

As far as music, I think I'm going to stick with it until I become more comfortable with hyperspace. I don't want my anxiety from the lack of music to impinge on my experience.

For anyone interested, I'd really suggest giving Aphex Twin or Flying Lotus a try, or even putting both seeds into Pandora and giving it a go. Both are fantastic artists in their own right, but with DMT they're beyond beautiful

for me music or any kind of noise keeps me grounded during my first experience i was about to breakthrough until i could hear the phish song i had playing on my upstairs computer. i did one time however breakthrough while listening to Fugazi, but personally music unless its really soft can keep me grounded

See it's kind of the opposite for me. Music has helped catapult me. I usually choose emotionally charged electronic music of varying kinds, even some with words. Sometimes I hear it but with breakthroughs it usually gets drowned out.

I think for me emotion plays a role in breaking through. Positive emotion makes it feel much more like a bungie jump and if I have and negative stray thoughts it slows down and isn't as responsive. By using music I prime my mind and shoot off into the cosmic wastelands of ever ending unfoldable folding.

Well I'm new to DMT having had only four real experiences, all in the last week. My feeling so far though is to enter the experience with as little background sensory information as possible.

Closed curtains, no lights and definitely no music.

As others have said, music seems to act as anchor to this world, and music with lyrics even more so. In my few experiences light sources seem to affect the journey as well, not so much as an anchor but more as a catalyst, but music really is the big one for me.

Definitely a bit sketchier though Smile

Personally, the music question is pretty much irrelevant, since I never actually hear it in a dmt peak, I'm not there.
And yeah the sounds of hyperspace are where its at.
