Our local paper here in PDX printed a series of articles, on the front page each day for a week, on the cartels that operate here in Oregon. Mexican drug cartels, perhaps I should clarify.

I am too broke to spend a buck anna half on newspapers every day, but I do know that there is a huge level of organized crime here surrounding the illegal drug trade, and Mexican mafia-cartels-are responsible for the trade in meth, heroin, and cocaine, and have also operate gigantic grows in public/national forest land, hundreds of acres, and absolutely no consideration is given to the wildlife, environment or other resources. Its terrible.

From my understanding, Oregon, and Portland especially, are a hotspot in the west for this activity, I'm sure it has to do with several factors, from law enforcement deficiencies, to the demand for drugs.

Anyway, I was unable to read the articles, but what I was able to read was the letters to the editor page the Monday after the series wrapped up, there were many people represented, and to the one, they all expressed how the drug war is a dismal failure and we need to address the issue of drug use and abuse in America reasonably, and do it now

It is heartening and inspiring to me that we are seeing this type of reaction, rather than the archaic "build more prisons"mentality. Folks are figuring out they've been feed a ton of b.s. over the decades.

Of course, these letters published are the ones chosen by the editor to be published, but the Oregonian isn't to well known as a voice for drug liberty, even weed, there have been many anti pot articles even as citizens of the state, we try to push ever widening measures through or legislature.
On an aside,
I have a theory as to why we are seeing this triumph of reason and it has to do with the switch over from cathode ray tubes, that flicker at delta wave frequencies to flat screens, which don't.
