I had a 3 tab LSD trip at a small festival that brought me to a certain interesting thought that I was able to remember.

When we imagine different planets or realities we always think about individual conscious selves contained in a larger reality of energy or matter. With just differences of biology or physical laws.

The easiest way to describe this is "the trinity" of universe, selves, and consciousness. BUT need every reality be structured in this way?

I tried to imagine a different kind of universe and it was really difficult. It always just seemed to be a variation on the trinity universe we are embedded in.

Is it even possible for a mind within this kind of reality to imagine another one? If so what would it be like? Has anyone read a book or something that described a different kind of reality than the self, universe, consciousness one we are embedded in?

In the province of the mind what one believes to be true, either is true or becomes true within certain limits. These limits are to be found experimentally and experientially. When so found these limits turn out to be further beliefs to be transcended. In the province of the mind there are no limits. However, in the province of the body there are definite limits not to be transcended.-J.C. Lilly

I think you can imagine quite a lot, but to what degree of accuracy can your brain really generate such a model if you exist here, made of this, right now ?

To see more ya gotta BE more...

Indeed. Check out Flatland by Edwin Abbott Abbott on the topic.

Psychedelics have allowed me to imagine vastly different flavors of reality, though it has also proven extremely difficult to express such experiences using words. More often, my experiences involve the realization that consciousness and reality cannot be defined easily if at all. What you should ask yourself is whether or not there is something paradoxical about the type of model you are pointing toward. For example, can consciousness exist in a universe without physical laws? Can it exist in a universe without "matter and energy"?

Most heard-of books consist of characters within a universe because it's hard to emotionally connect with aconscious objects in an abstract reality, and most authors want to make an emotional connection with their readers. A book that did not avail itself of this highly general format would have to be something like a math or philosophy textbook.
Every day I am thankful that I was introduced to psychedelic drugs.
