For someone who has constant back pain, it often deters me from venturing into the world of psychedelics unless it happens to be a good day for it. I try not to take presciption pain killers, but sometimes it just has to happen.

Can these substances be mixed? Such as vicodin and mushrooms?

There are dangers with certain Psychedelics like ayahausca and opiates but the classics, Mushrooms, Lsd, Mescaline, ext I have noticed the opiates dull the effects. Its not dangerous but I tended to always need more than my friends and they always seem to be in a better state than I was.

After being on Hydrocodone for close to 10 years, clean now though, Im still a hard head and need more than most people.

So its safe to do, just not exactly the most enjoyable experience? I still plan on staying away from mixing the two, but its good info for future reference.

From my personal exp yes. I have never had any problems nor read about any with classic Psychs, but once again Ayahuasca and any MAOI containing entheogen are not safe with opiates.

Simple answer is no.

Although, if you NEED them for back pain. Maybe look into getting to a point where tylonol takes away your pain.

I have smoked opium just before smoking changa. I really enjoyed my experience. I just read a thread on drinking and smoking dmt....I think it will always vary from person to person. Opium may effect me differently than you, so smoking dmt on opiates will have different effects. I've learned everything is trial by error. You're the only one who knows or can know how different combos effect you. The only thing I wouldn't use the trial by error method is with Ayahuasca....I don't think you want anything in your system

No, ayahuasca with that would be bad. I am talking classic psychs like mushrooms. No MAOI added.

I will just have to give it a shot and find out some time if it ever calls for it.

My experience with changa on opium had strange and uncomfortable body effects.. went great with enhanced leaf and freebase though. never take opiates with MAOI. I've combined with LSD and mushrooms before at varying doseages.. as others have said it does numb the effects of the psychedelic a little and is a bit of a waste of tripping. but it doesn't impose any real risk with mushrooms acid or dmt as far as i know.. i've had pretty psychedelic experiences with the milk from the poppy pods combined with cannabis...

I've mixed codeine and LSD quite nicely a couple times. I think the opiate can lessen the profound nature of the trip to a certain extent though. I've read a couple pretty far out trip reports of people mixing LSD with heroin, but I probably ain't ever goin there.

I think that the combination of opioids and hallucinogens is affected by ones 'relationship' with the opioids ie occasional user vs occasional user with a degree of tolerance vs addicted. The occasional user may get the dose of opioid wrong and have the nausea coloring the trip; the one who is addicted will be using bigger doses which will alter the experience more than a lesser dose, and the dissatisfaction of being a 'drug addict' may lead to some painful self-reflection whilst tripping. The occasional user with a degree of tolerance (the 'chipper'Pleased is ,IMO, in the best position to enjoy the combination the most.

I have found the combination of strong mu agonists with LSD, psilocin, psilocybin and vaporised DMT to be very pleasant; the opiate has a useful calming effect without impacting on the trip too much, but it does require getting the opiate dose just right.A decent dose (and this is highly variable, depending on ones relationship as above) of a mu agonist taken 6 hours after taking LSD makes those latter hours where not too much is happening very enjoyable and also aids sleeping.

Opioids with RIMAs can be very hazardous so is a combination to avoid, particularly if taken orally as in aya/pharmahuasca.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

I've always wondered if a LOW dose of some kind of opiate might release some of the anxiety that can go along with a high dose trip.

The consensus on the nexus seems to be that you loose some of the profundity of the experience, so I imagine that psychedelics + opiates is good if you want to watch some pretty pictures for a while and giggle to yourself, but probably not great for personal or spiritual exploration.

Y'know I can see where people are coming from with the opinion that opioids diminish the profundity of a psychedelic experience, but in my experience it hasn't always been so. Back when I was a kratom "chipper" (thanks corpus collosum for reminding me of that term!), before my level of pain actually required daily use of an opioid, I would sometimes take it during the come-down of a trip as it would ease me out of the experience and lead to a very relaxed and reflective state of mind. I have even taken kratom at the end of a Jurema-Harmala experience, somwhere around 8-10 hours after taking the harmala... which I DO NOT recommend as many people I have talked to have said that harmala and kratom leads to nasty side effects like extreme nausea, dizziness, and piercing headaches. These are all effects of taking too much kratom, and I believe these, excepting nausea, are likely due to potentiation of the other active chemicals in the leaf.

Since then, I have become a chronic pain patient and take an average of 50 mg hydrocodone daily, switching between that and kratom on some days. This has forced me to use them while tripping. I don't think it really diminishes much, but then I dunno I try to not take them till the end of trip. Still sometimes its not possible. Pain is probably just as distracting as a low dose of opioid.

I used to love opiates for the come down down off a trip. I'd wait till I was way down though. Like I'd have a nice trip off acid or mushrooms, trip all night, generally not sleep and the next afternoon/evening I'd have some hydros or whatever saved up, just waiting for such an occasion. So yeah, it was usually like 20 hours or so after eating acid....great way to come down.

A couple years ago I did develop an addiction to opiates....I overcame it after a few months of using, but since then the opiate come-down technique has less appeal for me.
