I'm thinking of buying some of his books, his classic "States of consciousness" is at the top of the list to order... also some great books about practical meditation. I think Tart is absolutely brilliant but I've never actually read one of his books, any recommendations where to start?

I have one book from him, 'waking up'. He bases himself a lot on Gurdjieff's ideas that we are not fully conscious, that we are in some sort of waking-sleep state, and he uses several analogies (some by gurdjieff, some from him) to show this, as well as explaining different terms and also giving some practical directions how to try to be more awake..

Its a good book, but not amazing. I havent checked more from him..

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll start with Altered states of consciousness.

Gurdjieff was an intriguing figure! His books are crazy, bombastic but also inspiring.
