Hello dmt nexus!

I have a question for you guys:
I have been trying to quit tobacco (again!) and have been using the method outlined by corpus collosum a while back, by cutting a big patch into smaller ones to taper slowly. I'm down to ~7mg/24 hours, day 4 no tobacco which i am thankful for.

However today I was thinking about trying a larger dose of Harmala alone, like 4.5g or so raw seeds, with or without a little cannabis. I know that nicotine is greatly potentiated by RIMA's, but that tobacco is added in small amounts to traditional ayahuasca brews, so it can't be completely deadly. The dose per hour would be .29milligram, so certainly not a very high dose... I believe a strong cigarette has around 1mg of absorbable nicotine, and sometimes I would smoke more than one strong cigarette per hour of using Harmala/Jurema in the past.

Does anyone have an idea if this would be a bad call?

First off, congrats on quitting! I did the patch method, and it worked for me... just really have to want to quit that nasty substance.

I looked briefly, and i can't find any peer-reviewed medical journals on the subject, aside from mentions that nicotine itself is an maoi, and is certainly potentiated by the combination.

I do have minor similar personal experience of smoking changa w/ a nicotine patch on, and I did get a really really nasty headache. It was enough to put me off smoking again until I was off the nicotine.

If you are already down to 7mg, maybe just give it a few days and drop to 0. I found the drop from 21 to 14 and 14 to 7 to be more noticeable than from 7 to 0. It feels great to be off too... I think even if there isn't a physical component for you, the concern about interactions may 'color' your trip, and the relief of being off of all nicotine if you wait to dose may also give yr trip a little positive boost for the accomplishment.

Hope that helps

Mapacho (Nicotiana rustica, very high in nicotine) is very commonly used along with Ayahuasca. I guess the pharmacodynamics would be a little different with a patch, but it should be a safe combination. Maybe you could reduce your dose of nicotine slightly for the experiment, if you are concerned?

Tobacco smoke does have MAOI properties, but I thought it had more to do with the harman/nor-harman found in tobacco smoke than with nicotine itself.

I went ahead and didn't proceed. I want to get this first week over at least before I try a psychedelic. Usually they don't make me desire to smoke, but with harmal I do actually want tobacco, and the effects we enhanced. I'm feel pretty good Bout this attempt, day six just came and still no tobacco, so I'm officially gone longer without than I have for years.

I feel as though this small of a dose of nicotine wouldn't be too dangerous, but MAO inhibition seems to be a big causal agent for the establishment of nicotine/tobacco dependence - precisely the thing I'm trying to get away from. I don't need to be playing into that insidious feedback loop.

BTW, pushups FTW for cravings, I get almost more relief than I would with a cigarette.
