This is a GREAT lecture. It's worth taking the time to listen to in its' entirety.

"But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."

The Nexus introduced me to Alan Watts for which I am so grateful. I also recently found this link to a pdf of The Joyous Cosmology - Adventures in the Chemistry of Consciousness.

http://www.holybooks.com...ads/joyous_cosmology.pdf

I haven't had the opportunity to read it yet but it looks like a "Doors of Perception" but by Alan Watts which sounds amazing! When I was checking out print copies to buy they seemed prohibitively expensive - I guess this must be out of print.

I can assure you I will be listening to the lecture and enjoying every syllable of it.

Oh man, in the summer, going out to the park and sitting on the top of the hill and listening to Alan while over looking a group of playing children is where wisdom is found. Listened to both and they are all great.
"Think more than you speak"
"How do you get rid of the pain of having pain in the first place? You get rid of expectations"
"You are everything that is. Open yourself to the love and understanding that is available."
"To see God, you have to have met the Devil."
"When you know how to listen, everyone becomes a guru."
" One time, I didn't do anything, and it was so empty... Almost as if I wasn't doing anything. Then I wrote about it. It was fulfilling."

Thanks so much for the link, universecannon! I listened to the whole lecture, and deeply enjoyed it.

Erik Davis described Alan Watts' lectures as "shimmer[ing] with galvanizing lucidity". I couldn't possibly put it better myself.

I happened to come across this thread on a bit of MXE, and this is the second time I've stumbled into a Watts lecture on MXE. Both times I felt like I was struck with spiritual lightning upon hearing his words. We share so very much in common, in terms of our interests and general views on life, and I feel compelled to describe Watts as sort of a cosmic brother.

Who else here wishes they could have tripped on LSD with Watts? Big grin

An excellent read. Definitely get your hands on a physical copy if possible. This is a book you want to sit and read in a cozy chair, in soft light. Profound, and poetic. I recall getting a used copy pretty cheaply, maybe on Amazon?

Watts <3

I recently just bought his book titled "This is it" Wonderful read, with the last chapter called "The New Alchemy" where he goes into detail regarding his LSD experiences. Imo he described the LSD experience very well and also his thoughts on mystical experience. Thumbs up
