It was my 19th birthday, I spent the day hiking with my sister & her boyfriend & then headed over to the dorm of my local art college. My three friends had been smoking in the park earlier that day & one of them told me about how everything he saw earlier was like the Simpsons. This was my not only my first experience with DMT but also my first experience tripping as well. I had no idea what to expect.

We all sat down in the living room as my friend they just introduced me to turned on some music & loaded the pipe with some herb & sprinkled DMT on top. He insisted that since it was my birthday & my first time tripping I should go first. They told me light a small patch of the DMT, draw in as much as possible & hold it for as long as I could. I didn't feel anything for the first twenty seconds so I said "Are you sure this is..." and it suddenly hit me.

I lay back on the couch and by this time the pipe had been passed to the guy who originally loaded it. My friend with long curly hair kept pointing at things for me to look at & laughing at my reaction. It was completely surreal. There was this sheet he splattered paint all over & I saw serpents slithering across it.

I kept saying "This is crazy, no this is insane. How is this possible? This can't be possible, but it is." My friends started laughing telling me to go look in the mirror, gave me some juice to drink & told me to look out the window. It was beautiful. This went on for a while. Finally the newly introduced friend handed me candybar.

"Zero Bar?" he said. "What's that?" I asked. "Try it." He said with a grin on his face. I unwrapped it, took a bite, & my eyes nearly popped out of my head as I began to chew. It felt like the top of my head was stretching to the ceiling while my jaw was hitting the floor.

We hung out for a while, finished off the DMT, smoked some herb & I proceeded to walk ten blocks home. As I was walking through the parkway shadows from the trees reached out to grab me, the mud started pulling me down, nervous but excited I said "NO earth, I can't stay here with you. I'm very tired & I must go home to wrap my mind around this wonderous day."

So far it's been my favorite & most eye opening birthday yet. Thumbs up

I'm glad to hear your experience went so well. Perhaps in the future when you smoke DMT, you'll consider sitting silently and closing your eyes. When you behold the visions behind closed eyes, it can make external stimuli seem laughable.

Thanks for the tip. I've read about some amazing sounding experiences like that so I'll have to give it a go next time. Smile

Awesome!

I'm like global... Minimal distractions and almost always behind closed eyes. I find closed eyes make it easier (for me anyway) to absorb what's around me while open eyes there's too much to process and make sense of.

Lol. Not thats its so logical to make sense of anyway, but its better to see with your mind's eye than your human eyes.

I'd just try different things out and find what makes you most comfortable. I know personally the last thing I want is to have someone around me fucking with me and laughing like I'm spectacle on display, thats for sure!

Ditto to the posts above.

Congratulations on the successful first step, but what you're describing is just about the dumbest way to be indoctrinated that I can possibly imagine. Your guides don't really know what they're doing. Honestly, Zola, they short changed you.

What you need to know is that DMT provides an experience that requires no external stimuli. It's a journey into the interior. That's not to say that music can't be nice or that open eyes are against the rules, but it's just not a get up and check out the curtains kind of a deal at all.

The way to go (in my opinion) is to prepare your space, hit it (correctly and with the right set of tools) and then lay back with no distractions. Closed eyes are conducive to complete immersion, but at a certain point it won't matter. Your previous reality will dissolve around you, utterly and completely. At any significant dosage, it's not a distortion of everyday reality. Rather, it will shatter that reality 100% and replace it with something new, something you just can't possibly imagine until you've experienced it first hand.

I'm sorry if I come off like some kind of psychedelic snob. I just can't for the life of me imagine giving anyone DMT and then goofing on them or directing them to check out the trippy walls. There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more to the experience that's just not possible to access if you're surrounded by a bunch of cackling hyenas. If you go again, I'd politely ask them to can the chatter while you explore what's behind your eyelids.

Anyway, welcome to the nexus. I hope you give it another go in a more introspective setting. This thing you've found runs incredibly deep. It's a bottomless well of impossibilities.

I totally agree with Art. You may not have even realized how much your friends minimized the experience for you. Nevertheless, you sound appreciative of the experience and that is a good attitude to have.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the kind words & insight. It was my first experience ever with psychedelics so I wasn't even sure what tripping would be like. I'm really grateful for places like this where I can open up to like minded people & obtain information that will help me on my journey. I'll be sure to prepare properly when the time comes.

Are there any topics on the forum you'd recommend for someone who's relatively new to DMT & is looking to fully experience it in the right environment?

Hello Zola, nice to have you at the Nexus.

I think nearly all of the forum will be of use to you if you are just starting your journey. I would defo look into some experience reports, it sounds like you had quite a low dose introduction and its probably worth finding out what your getting yourself into, it gets very very strange.

Like Art pointed out, your friends did you a disservice in providing a poor set/setting, it might be good to do your research and go back and show them how its done.

Zola- yeah, that's no good. Even if the intentions of your friends was good, it was a bad thing to cheapen your experience that way. ESPECIALLY someone having never taken a psychedelic! I suppose my next question would be why you chose DMT as your introduction to this realm? I'm just curious because I myself went straight from pot to lsd, having not even one iota what to expect from it.

Was it just the availability of it or something else?

I had spoken with them the night before to see if they'd want to hang out with me on my birthday & have mushrooms. They accepted & told me to give them a call in the morning. On the way to the mountains where we were going to hike that day I gave them a call. They said they weren't able to get mushrooms but they had DMT. I was pretty nervous to try it but I told them I'd come over later that night after hiking & dinner. About a month or so later I hung out with the same friends & tried LSD for the first time. When I finally had a chance to try mushrooms I decided I'd only trip with my two closest friends.

It sounds like you have a good, solid approach to all of this, and you've found in this place the absolute best resource there is to research and prepare.

This forum will provide tons of valuable information for you. My suggestion is that you immerse yourself in it and read, read, read, read, read. Ask lots of questions, familiarize yourself with the wiki, the experience reports, the health and safety page. It's all right here - everything you need to get started in building a healthy, mature relationship. You'll find that this is what we're about - the safe and healthy exploration of the magic within our noodles. It's powerful stuff - life changing, really. It'll humble you to the core.

Take baby steps. I've seen hardened vets of much LSD usage reduced to blubbering pools of jello in the aftermath of a DMT breakthrough. It's extraordinarily beautiful and highly rewarding, but it can be traumatic as well. If it's something you're drawn to, chances are that you'll find the right path for you.
