Hey all, I am going to be heading to Costa Rica in the very near future. I'll be down there there for the start of the rainy season which is apparently a good thing I hear for Cubensis down there. I'm wondering if the old method of cardboard box and desk fan would be able to dry them in a 90 degree F+ 100% humidity condition. Any input would be great since I do love fresh cubensis but I will be there for a while and if I find enough I'd like to dry some for some jungle/beach hiking with my local friends down there. I doubt in that kind of humidity, they would fully dry without a dehumidifier, or a special box filled with some sort of desiccant.

you can make a tea and freeze it if you have a freezer there. Long live the unwoke.

You can use the cardboard box and a fan to an extent but to get them "cracker dry" your definitely going to need to finish the job in a dessicant chamber.
That or a food dehydrator running with the heater element disabled.

i'm pretty sure your question has been answered but i would fan dry them on a table or what not as best you could and then put them in a box with dessicant for a while. or you could make an alcohol tincture, make some blue honey (YUMMMMM), or tea like jamie said. โ"Trust in your own wetware; your psyche and your body will be reunited." -Gracie and Zarkov

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think I am going to go with Jamie's frozen tea idea. Here's why, the dessicent is not easy to find where I am headed and it's very warm there. A couple bottles of "ice tea" is fairly inconspicuous and should not easily be detected by authorities if searched.. After all it's just ice tea. I do have another question though, can I make tea from the fresh mushies or do I have to dry somewhat first? I've only ever eaten the fresh ones, and only ever made tea from fried mushies. boil some water and turn it off and throw some chopped shrooms in the water and let it come to room temp. 2 washes might be better. i always do that when i have a limited supply. a fridge is a pretty good dehydrator too โ"Trust in your own wetware; your psyche and your body will be reunited." -Gracie and Zarkov

Maybe it's just me, but I always thought the tea was much better from shrooms that have been dried, then ground up to a powder. Don't ask me why or how, but from my experience, making tea with fresh shrooms has been less than ideal, while I never had a bad batch when using dried ones.

Tea from fresh shrooms is just fine IME.. Adding some vitamin c to the brew helps preventing oxidation of alkaloids, some people say, it might be worth a try. I wouldnt boil for too long, just add it to freshly boiled water or boil for a minute and turn it off.
