Very interesting, does it return to liquid state when you leave it to room temperature?

90% of the first container returned to liquid state left overnight at room temperature, with 10% as a hybrid goo/crystalline looking substance. It dissolves when touched. The pH is still 13-14 so I am wearing gloves. The second container is 80% goo with 20% of liquid separated as a top layer. Definite oddity.

The stating materials were manske precipitated harmala alkaloids.

I've got a caapi extraction going so I'm going to toss this later on. Was fun to play with though.

So Carrierwave, any news on this strange behaviour of the solutions? What happened of them?

I just realized your problem carrierwave.

You placed this back in the fridge after basifying? This is unnecessary, freebase harmalas are insoluble in water, you are able to filter them out immediately after addition of the base.

The refrigerator is only needed when you are precipitating your harmala hcl SALT, during the manske procedure.

also, you don't need lye for precipitation of freebase harmalas, sodium carbonate works fine.

I hope this extraction can be salvaged, 14 pH can be rather harsh on freebase harmalas for an extended period of time

Polymerisation of what?

Here im not being obnoxious towards you Xt, i am just asking what thought process led you to ths propositon. Others might propose it froze. What in solution could polymerise and into what?

The reason this happened was probably due to the excess of NaOH added, and the freebase harmalas and other precipitates in the cold solution.

Why it looks like this, I have no idea.
