It has long been suspected that alkaloids are present as tannates in the plant tissue. I would like to share with you the following:

Pharmacognosy and Pharmacobiotechnology, 2nd ed. by Ashutosh Kar wrote:
Salts of Alkaloids: It has been found that a plethora of alkaloids occurring in various plant species
are in the form of salts of organic acids, such as: acetic acid, malic acid, oxalic acid, succinic acid,
tartaric acid, tannic acid or some other specific plant acids.


This is just to confirm the reasonable suspicions. I'm also uploading a couple of pages.

..thanks Adivino, this is a very interesting topic, especially for those who want to experience the entheogens as they occur in the wild..
Dennis McKenna once commented that Tryptamines were usually found in plants as salts of Krebs Cycle acids (e.g. citric), but i see it could
be a lot broader than this...
