I was curious about the fluorescence of Rue alkaloids so I performed a quick epifluorescence analysis. Basically, I have a microscope that can direct certain wavelengths of light at a sample and detect different wavelengths of light. This allowed me to check out the fluorescence of some Rue alkaloids I'd preped a couple of years ago. The results were a little surprising.
Rue alks have a broad spectrum of fluorescence. I knew about the blue->green fluorescence but I also found UV->blue fluorescence and green->red fluorescence. The blue->green fluorescence was about 2x more intense then the others though.
