The shadow contains all the parts of ourselves that we try to hide, deny or suppress. It is the keeper of all the aspects of ourselves that we dislike and the qualities that we judge as unacceptable, source of negative thoughts. and then by awareness of our thoughts our ego as no say in our thoughts. Wake your mind up.

From what I have found through personal experience is that the "ego" is literally everything sensed by and from physically reality (taste, smell, sight, thought, idea, imagination, feelings, etc). This is all contained in the ego. Ego death is literally a dissolving and letting go of everything you know and everything you think you know. When you achieve ego death, that is when you can really begin to experience. Surrender to everything of your experience so that you can fully experience what you are trying to experience (don't let your brain or mind get in the way of your experience).
As for the "shadow" thing, that sounds to me like what I have come to call, "The Void". A place of nothingness that is everything. Everything there is everything but it is also nothing, but nothing is everything (just a balance from what I have come to think of it as). Everything is a part of you though. Nothing is separate from you. The only thing that separates anything from you, is your own ego.

I totally understand what your saying DivineDreamer. I agree that bad experiences and mind states are caused by the part of ourself that we pretend may not be there or hide from everyone. No, being aware of it does not change a thing, you need to think through what it is you don't like about yourself and either decide whether its stupid to hide/not like that part of yourself or whether or not you need to take action on what it is that you don't like/ trying to hide. This is why people who have a 'bad trip' often come out a bit confused and scared but a day later they will ponder the trip, untie the knots and realise what their mind was pointing out to them. Its like a wake up call to change. I have recently conquered a very old demon of mine, that goes back even to being the age of 5 or 6. Just a family issue that was holding me back a lot and blocking me from being me in some ways. As I came to understand what it was and how to go about it and then realised that there is now nothing to worry about, I litually could not stop smiling and being absolutely joyful for a good hour, it was a totally natural high Hope that may have helped man. Take care, BS.

The void is literally a void and the void. But this shadow thing is not. Metaphorically speaking It's just like being in a dark room that has a mirror in it and looking at yourself then thinking about something you kept deep inside yourself that needed change but you havn't changed it yet. Seeing the, some may call, 'dark' side of yourself.
