The collection of Alepidea amatymbica rhizomes takes place “on misty days” in summer - harvested material is stored away from the homestead for fear of lightning

Reviving this old thread. due to this amazing root.

I had bought the rhizomes over a year ago, smoked some with little effects. I was only smoking the roots and the exterior plant matter.

SO, I find the stuff in my herb box, and think to myself... Hmm.

The stuff is rock hard, so I smash it with a hammer.

and find something truly beautiful inside.

^ This pretty amber coloured sap, seems to contain the diterpenoids.

At first i tried to remove the sap and smoke it as is. But that proved extremely time consuming and difficult. I did vape some sap, tasted very good! But not enough for effects.

SO, i continue smashing the root with the hammer until I have small, sticky sappy root chunks. When the chunks were small enough I ground them with a mortar into a sticky sappy root powder.

This was bonged, and quickly, my body became quite sedated and relaxed, The only drug I could compare this to is cannabis!

It feels like a strong indica (High CBD) cannabis, without any mental stoning effects whatsoever.

I really like this root!, Supposedly it effects dreams as well, I will find out tonight.

A powerful and highly respected plant. I know it as iqwili, the Xhosa name. I have seen it chewed and consumed as is, and also have friends who grate it into a fine powder and add it to joints of cannabis. The later use seems to make the joint hits much smoother and is said to aid the respiratory tract (often used for asthma). It is "widely used for colds and chest complaints, as well as for asthma, influenza and abdominal cramps" (Van Wyk, 2009 - Medicinal Plants of South Africa).

I occasionally add the powdered rhizome to my bongs, or to herbal tea brews (to which it adds an enjoyable and slight metallic taste).
