5meo-DMT is also an inspirational candidate here (...given it's very nature)?
Quran gives some additional information about the people of Madyaan (the
people of the thicket) who started worshipping a tree or a number of trees/bushes and plants. They had their own prophet/warner called
Shu'ayb (R.A.).
Acacia Senegal is not common (unless cultivated) in the Middle East, or even east of the Nile. There is another tree that is used to collect gum arabic (gum talha) east of the Nile and in Arabia:
acacia seyal or red acacia. The two are often lumped together as A. Senegal. A. Seyyal has many more traditional medicinal uses.
Look at the names given to that tree in several mideast tongues:
Sami, shami,samar,sammar, somar,samor,samra,sambra,sayyal,sant,sunt,seyal, seyyal, sheeta, shittah,shittim....etc
Does the
safta d' sambra (the harmal haoma of the Mandaneans/Sabians) come to mind? The tree is called sambra in some areas of
larger Bahrayn previously home of the vegetarian
Qarmatian Republic (who stole the black monolith from the Kaaba). The very name "Qarmatian" means "red-eyed" or "secret teacher".
Mansoor al Hallaj was (according to some sources) inspired by them.
Also, we think there is more to the use of miswak (tooth sticks made from roots and sticks from various plants and bushes), then meets the eye. The sunnah has strict rules how to use it, what posture to asume....etc. Some people (the Beja, Afar, Danakil, Somaali chew on it all day long)
Finally, there is the story of Moses R.A. and
Al Khidr A.S. (the green one), an immortal yogin whom Moses R.A. became (aware of and) a student of, the Quran mentions how they've met, and the events (why questions) that led to their parting. A fish plays a role in their meeting story....
Always good
in discussing
Abracadabric ways, not to completely ignore it's latest pre-eschaton upgrade aka - the missing brick? Even if (they) appear as scary, shocking and/or revolting, there might still be a treasure groove that unlocks like onion layer style...?
And those that miss-represent (the
deen,
daena,
dhyān) they have misunderstood and messed up the very essence by creating an external
space god (they
also call it Allah) but in doing so, they
fell into the very
trap & meaning of
Kufr, that which "covers" access to the
Dhat of the
Beloved from the individual. It equals to a state of separation = hell.
In theory they could be fixed in a
single day but openess to experience is a requirement and often missing due the iron grip of manlihood, culture and the associated superstitions, missjudgments & prejudices. For that reason they are the
unfortunate ones.
