I recently ditched my 15 dollar, falling apart (held together with tape) headphones with the Beats Solo2 over-ear headphones. Silly of me to not do this sooner, as music has taken on a completely new level, like the way it was intended to be heard; all the bassy-y undertones mixed with all the subtleties of each track.

A few here recommended Audio Technica headphones, which I did look at, but these Solo2's were open box item and i saved $60. :}

Post what your currently using; even if it's just a killer speaker set-up; Id like to see what all of you prefer.

BeyerDynamic DT880pro 600Ohm version with a good headphone amp.

I'm not sure what you paid for the Beats but with that brand you pay mostly for the name. Pleased

Kind regards,

250 ohm version, can use them without a preamp, but still a bit quiet direct.

Yeah, it was an open box item, so i payed $60 less than sticker. I was looking at the Audio Technicas right next to them, which were like 20-30 bucks more. I would've not payed sticker for the solo2s though if it were full price; would've just got the audio technicas in that case. Smile

Got a set of DT770s (250 ohm), lovely and comfy all day long.

i have a set of Sennheiser HD201, they are pretty cheap but do the buisness just fine.

I have a few quid to spend on a new pair at the moment and i would like to know if there is really that much difference between my £15 pair and a pair for £150?

Tattvamasi, glad you are happy with your new headphones. I know they make a difference in how to enjoy music.

As for differences...i don't know the Sennheiser HD201, but it is very likely to hear a difference. I used cheap sennheisers in the past, and for me, the difference was stark. Frequencies seem to be far more differentiated.

Best to find some place to check them out. DT770s were made for use in recording studios as their sound is rather linear. Some prefer highend consumer headphones because they often have more bass. The DT770s are perhaps more like LSD while some highend consumer models are more like mushrooms. But in the case of headphones, i value clarity over ooompfh.

Sennheiser HD439...

http://en-us.sennheiser....-headphones-audio-hd-439

I read a ton of reviews. I think I scored them on sale for about $60. I got tired of earbuds which are fine for some applications but for laying back and hearing all the detail while keeping my ears feeling good and without breaking the bank, I think these do a fine job.

I love them.

I have a pair of skull candy navigators. They were a quick grab as i needed a replacement and i ended up actually liking them. Downsides are they dont get loud enough when plugged into my android, and they start to come apart when they are used in rough activities (material covering speakers ungluing at the seems). Super comfy and the noise canceling is pretty good.

I need something compact, near the size of the navigators, but a little more durable and LOUDER.

I also have a pair of logitech g430's for pc gaming. This purchase kind of pissed me off. They are too quiet and they distort rather easy imo. Not worth the $80 i paid.

I use Sony Stereo Headphones MDR-XD200. They work efficiently enough atm, good sound quality. Used to have a greater pair but they stopped working within couple years. The older pair I use now have lasted longer. Pleased

I use Bose AE2's but I only use them when I'm on the go, mainly because they're comfortable, but the sounds ok, nothing special.

I much prefer music to breathe, so I prefer speakers for honest to goodness listening.

I have tolerant neighbours so I don't need headphones.

So I use two of these Klipsch RF-62:

alongside a Klipsch RW-10d subwoofer:

RHA MA750 in-ear or Audio-Technica ATH-M50 over-ear. Hifiman or Grado overears too maybe, once I have the cash. Go to headfi and read around. Don't buy brands just because you recognize them.

yeah..

I'd rather get the Klipsch surround system than any headphones. you get to (literally) feel the music.
besides that, i lean towards in-ear. had a pair of westone 4r's, until a [banned] former-nexus member stole them.
