I just came across this compilation of clips of Russell Brand speaking publicly about multiple subjects such as spirituality, higher states of consciousness, societal sheep being asleep, etc....some of the clips I havent even seen before of him.

Personally, I think he's a magnificent speaker and has a ton of passion for what he talks about. The fact that he's using his position as a celebrity to pass along a message of hope and is so steadfast about trying to wake up people who may have no idea of exactly who/what/when/how/why the world works the way it does is amazing, compared to your average young celeb whos just an over-partying drunk slop mess.

Im the last person youll ever hear talking about any celebrities, but Ive always been a big fan of his comedy as well as his personality and his passion for trying to wake the masses up and help those realize what's between the lines. He's like a modern day George Carlin, almost like he took the torch and ran with it.

He is definitely a wordsmith, I think he's great.
Someone who is not afraid to speak his mind, this has to be my favourite video of him, he totally won this debate.

Thats actually what he used to be, he was also addicted to crack and smack.
When did he become all aware and spiritual? What was the catalyst?
Much of what you outlined in the first paragraph resonated strongly with me I will have a watch thanks for posting the links.

I used to find him a bit irritating but he"s growing on me. He"s got heart and makes valid points but on the no voting thing i don"t think that i agree. By not voting you are not having a say. You are playing into their hands. Not voting does not illustrate public opinion. It just illustrates apathy. As far as the conservatve government in the uk goes by not voting you will guarantee that they will get into power once again and i believe that they are the greater of two evils in English politics at present.

With the link above there are also points i agree and disagree with. I think on the whole if Brand is connecting with young people and getting a positive message across it will do more good than harm.

I admire his heart and courage. Great posts.

Hmmm... I had never heard him really speak his mind before - all the clips I have seen until now have been of him making a total ass of himself.

While the ideas aren't original, they are very well expressed - other than his nervous speed he is an excellent orator. He had me until the clip where he is giving a conference about TM (transcendental meditation). TM is big business and is essentially a pyramid scheme (don't believe me, read one of the few book exposes out there). One of my cinematic heros, David Lynch, was sucked into this years ago, and even put a book out on the market that was essentially an ad for TM. I often wonder if it is a coincidence that the letters for Transcendental Meditation are also those for Trade Mark... A shame...

Anyway, off topic... I don't want to derail the thread.

Despite his association with TM, I will pay more attention to this guy - hell, David Lynch still manages to make some pretty mind boggling films!!

Cheers and thanks for posting this,

It's amazing that any celebrity ever says anything of worth. Brand is great.

hug46....I am taking the bait Smile By voting you are playing in to the system. Voting (for elected officials) is a charade, a joke, that gives (increasingly less and less) people a false sense of participation or of having a voice. People need to take responsibility for their own lives and not expect some soulless politician to do anything for them. When a system is completely broken and has pushed us into a state of total crises...it's time to not participate. I'm stopping right there--and I do not care if I've convinced anyone, I am just shutting up.

Brand reminds me of myself--when I was younger, more hyper and more full of myself--love that guy.

That is an interesting clip. Thanks for posting. I guess I'm just mostly struck by the contradictions with this guy.

He's clearly got a lot on his mind, and he's hitting on a lot of themes that are near and dear to the bulk of the members here, I imagine. But he's railing a lot against dumbed down pop culture and the insidious mind control it exerts, while at the same time exploiting that very system to it's richest and gaudiest potential. Some of his work I've found funny for sure, but a lot of it's just been total mindless garbage made in the service of rackin' up dollars. I mean, this is the guy who was married to Katy Perry, yes? Can anyone name a more vapid or vacuous Satan of pop culture? She's certainly up near the top.

I did like the clip though, and can't say as I disagree with much of what he's saying. He seems like a good guy just lookin' for a way to live that makes sense and makes him happy.

Hm, I've never seen any of his movies--just his stand-up, him on the GQ awards, interviewed on news shows, stuff like that. Haven't really seen much of his mindless pop-nonsense side, don't own a tv, never heard of katy perry. Lucky me, I suppose.

Absolutely agree with that last sentence. Halfway agree with the rest. But voting is important. As long as you vote with your eyes open, knowing that the system is broken, you can still exert some influence over things that matter.

Look at the voter initiatives in Colorado and Washington. You can say that's different than voting directly for elected officials, but think about it: if the other US party was in power, do you think they'd be allowing legal recreational marijuana (gasp!) without dragging the issue through the legal system all the way to the Supreme Court? They have to cater to their base, and their base is... well, we won't go there. Smile

Right now, the Justice Dept under Holder is drawing up rules to allow banks to do business with marijuana sellers. Can you imagine this happening under someone like former AG John Ashcroft?

Voting works. It's usually for the lesser of two evils, but that's better than having no say at all.

Yes I see the contradiction, but at the same time we are all (I guess I can't say all) living a contradiction. The whole system works against the way a lot of people feel is correct. We still trudge along and I am not going to pretend I don't exploit certain things.

I mean in a way we sit here and pay our taxes that ultimately go towards mass killings since the day we first filled out that W2. I am not really disagreeing with you though, atleast he seems to have the correct outlook on things and is doing quite a lot. The youtube vid I posted above shows his heart is in the right place.

By not voting you are giving the system carte blanche. Having said that i understand your sentiments. We are in a messed up state of affairs (comme d"habitude) and it is very difficult to decide what is the best course of action.

In the Uk i would vote for the green party. Not because i would think they would get into power but because it may influence the other parties to take up policies to catch my vote. Life, in general, is about supply and demand.

Having said that , in my present country of residence i am persona non grata and do not vote or pay taxes. There is no authority but myself (been dying to use that phrase) and it feels ok, for the moment.

Glad everyone enjoyed the clip so much! And yes, his past drug abuse aside and his jester-like comedy and flamboyance, he IS just full of passion for kindness toward each other and self centering. Its 100% true that if everyone worked on the self instead of worrying about others, there'd be a hell of a lot less worry going on. Thats without saying though, thats something thats been known for forever.

Voting?? Do you people watch MTV or something?? Get out and rock the vote! lol Surprised

I stay clear of it, always have and always will. I dont believe in it, the agenda will take its course with or without your lever flick in the booth. It's just a big, well orchestrated show.

Not trying to say anyone is wrong, that's just my take. If it works for you, it works for you.

The big issue this past year in the usa has been obamacare, right? Didn't they pretend to shut down the government, oh no, haha, over it? republicans, protesting obamacare, right?

Coercive health care, forced health insurance--obmamacare, was first suggested by republicans. They suggested it many times over the years, from multiple republican mouths.

Hug46, and all voters out there--I respect your position on the matter. As far as "not voting give them carte blanche" Naw, I feel ya, but I reject that. For myself anyway. Buying coorporate garbage, getting news from their networks, buying their "foods"--no. Hand made local goods and local, natural foods--I'm all about zero participation. That system is so broke, I just need to stay as far away as possible. Voting may do some good--but I just need to keep myself clean of all that foolishness and try to live free.
