For SWIM, the tail end of a smoked DMT trip feels exactly like melatonin does, and this damn melatonin feeling lasts a few hours for him and he does NOT like it. It's the only thing he really doesn't like about smoked DMT. Sublingual DMT (via Virola calophylla resin) or oral DMT with an MAOI lacks this effect.

I personally don't like melatonin. I find it lingers in my body way too long. I can feel the effects of melatonin for about 48 hours. I hate it. I don't like anything that lasts that long. I’ve used it to help me sleep a few times, and felt it for the entire following day. I don’t know why, but for some reason my body does not metabolize it well.

Well it does make you feel very relaxed and tired. Been taking about 2-3 mg on average about every other day for the past couple months on and off. I usually just take it about half an hour to an hour before sleep, but waking is hard to do, and that groggy feeling takes a while to go away. I was just reading, psychoactive drugs, like marijuana, increases melatonin synthesis, so it will onset a lot faster, maybe I will be able to experience something. I am going to try smoking and take about 10mg to see how it goes. And yes, I get very bizarre dreams. Since I have found no evidence of possible overdose or harm, I was thinking about trying up to 100mg to see what happens.

Yes, groggy. I hate it. Even coffee can't get rid of the groggy feeling.

Is there something that can effectively clear it up the following day, leaving you feeling fresh and alert?

I've never heard of piracetam. I've never seen it anywhere either. Is that an OTC thing that they have at the local pharmacies?

ok guys...

there are three reasons why i have already taken 30 mg of melatonin and smoked 1 joint tonight:

1. this thread interests me...
2. i have a bottle of melatonin on my desk...
3. i wanted to test it out!

aannnddd either i'm rather gullible, immune to the amazing melatonin effects, or doing it wrong because i am only slightly stoned... sigh...

think it was the caffiene that did it for you, OP? maybe nic is right and a larger dose is needed...

i guess we'll see what crazy dreams are had tonight!

So it's a nootropic like strychnine then?

Are the effects anything like strychnine?

Strychnine is fantastic in microdoses, but very potent and dangerously lethal because it's so potent. Just 500 micrograms will supercharge your brain. It increases memory recall, increases all of the senses (sight, hearing, touch, etc.), and stimulates the brain. It’s fantastic but dangerous at the same time.

I’ve never seen piracetam. Is there a brand name it goes by?

Sorry you weren't really getting to trip Embarrased I wouldn't be surprised if the caffeine played a part, the only other reports I'd read of this kind of thing happening had caffeine involved, too. I just barely missed having some input to this yesterday, too, I got completely involved in a trip and didn't read this topic again even though I had it open, damn. Well, did you at least have some good dreams? Haha I love the kind of things I dream about after taking melatonin!

A couple nights ago I had:

1. 6-7 beers
2. one bowl of cannabis
3. 8-10 mg of melatonin (the peppermint chewables, eating them like candy!)

Within fifteen to twenty minutes I had some euphoric effects but this could just be from alcohol and weed, getting the roller coaster like effects, feeling good but otherwise uneventful. Then, things were getting blurred and relaxed, so I told myself that I was tired and need to go to sleep, and woke up in my bed not remembering going to sleep. Felt tired all day, but nothing. Could possibly try again sometime soon but more melatonin. Had a disturbing dream, though, that was fun..

yeah! theres so many factors... i was excited though...

interestingly enough, i took an illegitemate amount of melatonin and didnt smoke much of the weed, maybe it has more to do with the cannabis?

also - after about 4 hours, i felt amazing! not even drowsy or tired, but focused and fine. granted, my dreams were crazy, but i felt awesome when i woke up.

well it was a good effort!

Hmm there are some reports in Erowid as well with what one could call "Melatoninhuasca" (i hate inventing new words, im not too much up for "trends"Pleased. Both are pretty uneventful although the amount of melatonin used is quite small. One is with Moclobemide and other with harmala alkaloids:

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=14505

http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=46801

Could this combination be dangerous? I do not know but granded that melatonin was taken by some people in extraordinary amounts (100 mg) i doubt combining some with a MAO inhibitor would be too dangerous.

As always tread carefully, you do not want to be the first to find out the "contradictions".

Dreamer was a bit drunk (an accident, wasn't watching the measure sizes) and then in his idiocy ate three 3mg melatonin tablets when his friend offered him one before bed. He very quickly felt sick and had to lie down. The whole room was spinning and he had his arms in the air trying to grab onto the spinning lights to make them stop. It was worrying. Stupid dreamer.

Dreamer has not experienced room spin from booze in 15 years- not since his teens- and he has been a lot more drunk than he was that night many many times in those years. So, he suspects that melatonin potentiates alcohol too. Perhaps something we don't want people knowing about, but I doubt anyone would want to try seeing as it makes you drowsy rather than want to party. Despite the effects, he woke up readily when prodded by friends, so I hope that means there is no date-rape potential.

It is definitely a wonderful sleep aid, feels nice and does the job. I've had occasional sleeping problems throughout my life and melatonin and vallium are the only things that work well. Other over the counter medicines just leave me feeling awful and drowsy but still unable to sleep, and make me oversleep in the mornings and feel groggy once I'm up.
Everything I write is fictional roleplay. Obviously! End tribal genocide: www.survival-international.org Quick petitions for meaningful change: www.avaaz.org/en/

Sorry to revive such an old thread.

After some quick research, seems that the first step in breaking down melatonin produces mexamine (5-METHOXYTRYPTAMINE). Mexamine is a full agonist of almost all the 5-HT sites, and has shown some possible hallucinogenic potential. It is destroyed by MAO-A. Some researchers have theorized that it may be at least partially responsible for dreams. It only lasts a few minutes in the brain before being destroyed, which might explain why dreams are so short; the hallucinogenic angle could explain the "time dilation" effect in dreams, where it seems like it lasts forever but only a minute or two has passed in real life.

So, since the brain turns melatonin into mexamine, and mexamine is hallucinogenic, any thought on drinking some rue and taking some melatonin? This report on erowid shows some possibilities.

Strassman did some pretty heavy research in the area of melatonin. While it did bring some new insights into the nature of endogenous melatonin production and its effect on reproduction, it did not seem as if it had much "activity" other than helping one to relax/sleep.

Some very large doses were accidentally given to patients in which no trip/hallucinogenic effects were produced.

This is just regurgitated material and i know little about current research in the area. I just thought i'd share.
