Found this interesting article on PubMed:
Agonist properties of N,N-dimethyltryptamine at serotonin 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors

The interesting thing about it is this:
Quote:
Thus, we conclude that DMT behaves as an agonist at both 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors. One difference was evident in that the 5-HT2C, but not the 5-HT2A, receptor showed a profound desensitization to DMT over time. This difference is interesting in light of the recent report that the hallucinogenic activity of DMT does not tolerate in humans and suggests the 5-HT2C receptor plays a less prominent role in the action of DMT.

So it seems that the brain DOES adept to DMT in one part of the receptors. As far as I know 5-HT2C plays a part in ones anxiety. So this could mean that if you take DMT for a longer time it might get less and less scary. It might also have the effect that people who use DMT over a longer period of time might be less vulnerable to anxiety.

Can you people please comment on the fact if using DMT makes you less and less scared over time?

Hello Traveler, I read that report and have to confess it made absolutley no sence to me. I have no idea what they were talking about at all.

In regards to my own life , I still worry about all the mundane things that I've allways worried about.

Will this lumpy jumper still love me if she finds about the other lumpy jumper?
Will I fall off my bike if I dont brake now?
Will my boss tolerate my last misdemeanor?
Will this cheque clear by Monday morning?
Will I survive this latest trip and come back normal?
and so on and so on

If those people are getting bored of rats, and don't mind me not reading their reports, I shall volunter for the human trials

I am a clown, nothing I say can be taken seriously. It is my profesion to talk nonsense

Sure it does, but I doubt it has anything to see with 5HTc receptors or anything like that. It's just our animal nature to learn to not be afraid when there are no 'real' reasons to be afraid.
DMT by itself does not trigger anxiety (contrary to salvia or shrooms for my friend).
However I would say that the repeated experience do not reduce the self-questionnning about the mystery of beeing !
Too much self-questionnig can lead to umconfortable inner states... shall I call that 'anxiety' ?

interesting paper. Id like to add that in a paper by dennis mckenna he mentions that an alkaloid (i forget which one one of the harmaline alkaoids) in B. caapi increases the amount of another 5-HT(forget which one) receptor in the brain. again which can be tied into the types of brain chemistry changes that could be taking place through these compounds. the real question is it the experience or the actual physical exposer to these compounds that is causing these changes... any thoughts? by the way hello everyone i just signed in here. oh yea and in response to your poll. some guy told me that hes only done dmt a handful of times sometimes its freaky sometimes its not...nothing conclusive hah
