Hello friends,

Since my departure is in the foreseeable future, I am starting to sort through the administrative and organizational bits and bops that inevitably accompany such a move.

The open internet can be very vague, and always leaves me suspicious of the validity of information it stores, so I need the help of someone local to Peru who has either:

A - spent enough time there to know quite a lot about the country;

- or -

B - went through the relocation process recently;

I am mainly interested in knowing more about the following:
• documentation that one needs to live there
• diseases that an Eastern European might be vulnerable to (e.g. viruses/bacteria/parasites in food/water and ways to prepare the immune system to fight them)
• food specifics - stuff to keep in mind when buying and eating local food
• important laws that might not be obvious to a gringo like myself
• prices of general goods in Tarapoto for example (a kilo of rice/potatoes/corn, nuts, fresh water etc.)
• is the local rainwater good to drink, or does it need additional filtering?
• any way to fight the blight that are mosquitoes (some ointment made from local herbs for example)?
• best footwear for the rainforest area and prevention of trench foot
• care for cuts and surface injuries (since the humidity makes it very hard for an open wound, no matter how small, to heal - how do I make sure I don't get a nasty infection and get in trouble?

If someone is willing to spend some 20 minutes of their day with me in PMs and help me get more clarity on life there I would be infinitely grateful. It is a journey I am absolutely terrified of, but also I feel a pulling force from deep within the Amazon.

I love you all. Love
