(Yes it's octopuses)
this and many other links lead to stories, don't have a link to the actual study

A recent study using MDMA was performed not to see how it effects humans but rather octopuses.

Because the they diverged from any common ancestor so long ago on the evolutionary scale and are so different from humans morphologicallly, researchers are interested in learning how octopuses have such high levels of cognition. Their brains structurally resemble slugs more than any mammal so researchers have been wanting to know the answer to this question.

They lowered some of the polypods into tanks of water full of pharmaceutical grade ecstasy for ten minutes, rinsed the fellows off and placed them in an enclosure that allowed them to have contact with others. Usually they are rather timid if not surly, but after dosing they became downright friendly-displaying affectionate and curious behaviour towards their peers in the tank. Some apparently performed water acrobatics and one stared at an air-stone in the tank for a very long time.

Apparently this shows that we share serotonin as a common neurotransmitter even though our most recent common ancestor was over 500 million years ago. Therefore, serotonin is a very ancient substance related to neuro chemistry across species. Interesting!

This is what the octopus looked like after taking the ecstasy:

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
― Jacques Bergier, quoting Fulcanelli

Full text of the study is in the scientific articles thread here.

The octopuses got all touchy feely and started dancing. Cool
Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily...
