I have just aquired some ceremonial cacao, I am currently taking an SSRI Amitryptaline for nerve pain. A cacao guide recommended I stay away from it because it has interactions but, she couldn't explain why or how, I'm looking for anyone who can give further information and spread light on this topic.

I am most worried about Serrotonin syndome though I doubt this can happen as Cacao only has MAOI and low doses.

theobromine doesn’t interact with serotonin reuptake transporters.
It is a substrate for CYP3A4, thus metabolized by MAO-A.

Big grin sorry.

theobromine doesn’t bind the same serotonin sites as SSRI’s, no contraindications.

So its safe to take Cacao if I'm on an SSRI? I'm assuming this is what you mean. I know it has direct conflicts with MAOI's
