Disclaimer: I am assuming a lot of people that are on the forum have thought deeply about these subjects. I know there are people on this forum that have not. I spent twenty years in the military and ten years working in prisons. My mind naturally goes to security. I am that guy that walks in clocks all the exits and take a seat with his back to the wall facing the entrance. If you get something out of this great if not carry on.

This morning I was putting some Epsom salt in the oven to improve my hardware Acetone. My wife is what are you doing so I started to explain and she is like I don't want know in a joking way.I have been married for 37 years to a fantastic woman. I have a degenerative nerve disease that barring a Neurologist that wants to take on a medical mystery. My body is only going to work good enough to safely carry out this hobby for a couple of years. I don't know where the finish line is but I can see it from here.
I had read the research about using Psychedelics with people that were in hospice. I had some mushrooms that a friend had given me and I had put it in a lock box where it sat for ten years until I needed it. Funny how these things work. It was not pleasant but it was very healing. I have wanted to try DMT since I first heard of it in the 70's. I sat down and had a talk with her about this bucket list item. I explained if I don't tell anyone and you don't tell anyone the chances of something happening is non zero but we will say a fraction of a percent. The more people that one of us tells the bigger that non zero probability grows. Even though never having done any Psychedelics she does not have a frame of reference I still tell her of my adventures. After all she has been through as a military wife I have complete trust in her with my life and freedom.

How many people have seen relationships go on the rocks and crazy shit happen. Everyone raise their hands. Like Chris Rock says never ride around with a mad woman. I have talked to a lot of inmates that were in prison because take your pick, Wife, Girlfriend, Both, Friend, Enemy made a phone call. I know when you first fall in love and lose your mind and the little head is talking romantic shit that you want to reveal all of your secrets to your soul mate.

Do you do you really. Think about the consequences if in a year or two your soul mate has become your bitter enemy. If you want to trust your freedom to this person that is your decision I just want you to take a few moments first. I had an inmate in the chow hall tell me one time "I am a super-criminal" I said, "No the super criminals are on the outside." So if you are going to break the law think about some points of law. Be a super criminal.

Before the police can get a warrant they have to have probable cause. This is information such as your former beloved calling and explaining how her boyfriend is a drug terrorist.
Another way to get caught is driving or acting in a manner that will bring you to the attention of law enforcement. I am an old white guy with my wife driving me around with disabled plates and a wheelchair in the back. Chances of me getting stopped not high. I have got one ticket in 30 years. If I do get stopped are they searching me no. If I am a young black man from Chicago yes. You know how not to get stopped don't look like a drug user. There are some great You Tube videos about this watch them. Do not be walking around with a gram of some illicit substance stop at the bar, get fucked up, end up against a wall with police patting you down. Quick recap do not do stupid shit that will bring you to the attention of law enforcement when you have illicit drugs on you!!

If you are doing stupid shit and come to the attention of law enforcement do not compound your error by talking shit. You know who goes to jail? People that have negative behaviors. You want to be calm and cooperative and hope you can slide by with out a search. If you think about these things and rehearse them in your mind it will help you to be calm. If you are sweating, hands shaking ect or the cop gets a vibe you are going to be searched. I have taught this stuff for many years and one of my pet peeves is shitty pat searches. Stay calm the cop might not find it if you did not hide in the usual places. There are resources out there do some research it might save you years of time.

The cop finds it. He will say something to the effect what is this. Important point has he read you your rights? If he has, say right to remain silent I will take that one with a side of lawyer as soon as possible. If he has not read you your rights say you would invoke your right to remain silent. Do not get an attitude be respectful. If you are not already handcuffed DO NOT RESIST. If you resist that is an automatic extra charge plus a golden ticket to the cops to blow off some steam kicking your ass. Let your lawyer see what they have in discovery stuff happens they might not identify it. If they do let your lawyer tell them a story like you bought it off a guy at a bar and thought it was MDMA,(pick a white power with the smallest punishment) Should be able to plea bargain it down to a misdemeanor.

If you are thinking that your non zero chance is getting or is going to get uncomfortably large you might think about having a bondsman and lawyer on retainer. You know what the people that use public defenders are called? Inmates.

Back to probable cause. Say number one happens wife/girlfriend ect calls about your sophisticated drug lab. Police get calls like this all the time. The first step they are going to run your name. Do you have prior convictions or warrants? Have police been to your house for any reason? If you are a mainstream upstanding member of the community that calls the Sheriff by his first name. Probably going to drop it. Could get a phone call from someone that you know "Bill you are not going to believe what Arlene called up and said about you." Start cleaning. Now
Now if you are a dirty hippy, biker, (plug in a cliche of your choice) they might look at your finances ect. If you are doing home chemistry as a hobby should be good. If you do happen to have a lot of cash ect you need to find a good dirty lawyer.
If you are an active criminal or belong to a "Suspicious group" you need to kick your security up to the next level that is beyond the scope of this post.

Say a cop shows up your door and say's "Shuck's bill we had this call and I have to come and check it out." Step outside and talk to him. If he says can we go inside and talk say no I am good out here. If you invite a cop into your home anything in plain view is automatically a consent search. Do not make the case for them. If a cop came and talked to me I would be doing a very thorough cleaning right after that. Then take a hiatus from my hobby and depending on my finances I might move to a different state. It is not illegal to have lab equipment. I have no doubt that if I went on Amazon today and ordered about ten thousand dollars worth of lab equipment and chemicals before it was delivered there would be someone from the DEA driving by the house. If you are buying stuff from various vendors over time or if you are lucky enough to live in a big city where you can buy things with cash. No alarm bells will be raised.

Remember law enforcement has limited resources if you do not make work for them they will do other things. Does any cop anywhere give a rats ass about old people or people in general doing DMT,LSD ect. No, the reason why they don't die from it and generally are not a problem.

If you get anything out of this remember.

Do not make work for the police

Excellent advice Ananda. I would like to mirror your thoughts with my own anecdotes.

I have always operated by the same code as I with my computer network (I'm a sysadmin), which is the principle of least privilege. I don't need to tell anyone about anything about what I am doing, unless completely necessary. My wife (of 15 years) knows what I do, but she doesn't know, or even care to know, where my stashes are. She tolerates my chemistry, botany and mycology experiments with minimal interest... and doesn't mind trying every now and then some of the fruits of my labours.

BUT

I do not tell anyone else. I don't tell my best friend, I don't tell my brother or sisters and if I had a girlfriend I certainly wouldn't be telling her a single thing about anything.

When I left college I had a massive debt. I paid it off in 2 years organising things for friends, through this other really good (imaginary) friend. They would come to my house, I would get the cash, go for a drive and come back with what they were after. They didn't know that it was actually in my garage already, and the drive around the block, and maybe a stop for a beer, was just a ruse. It worked. Everyone was happy. The moment my debt was paid off I stopped that. I was free to live my life without the debt yoke. Mission accomplished. I never told a soul.

Police pull me over. "Good day sir" (yes I actually call them sir without a hint of sarcasm), yes sir, no sir, not a problem sir, you have a great day too sir.
No need to flex rights. It's just asking for trouble...

Still, I have never really come under any suspicion. I look and smell squeaky clean. But from when I was a youngster and into much trouble the best thing to say is always absolutely nothing. Even if you are innocent. Not a single word, otherwise the copper might "remember" something you said, in fact or fiction it holds up much better than the accused in court. Innocent people have been sentenced to life and death for talking to the cops...

We have sites like this to share our experiences. No need to share with our local physical world. Thumbs up

The nearest we ever come to knowing truth is when we are witness to paradox.

I am perhaps a bit too open with what i do. First, i suss them out. I don't just start with "Hi, i love psychs!"

I ask questions. And if they are kindred spirits, i don't go into detail about my set up.

As for wives and girlfrieds, i will have neither. Relationships = attachment = complications.
