I came across this quote in my copy of PIHKAL (Page 32):

Quote:
IF one could stir simple household ammonia into elemicin to convert it to the strange and challenging psychedelic TMA (at least in theory), then a similar stirring of ammonia into myristicin should give rise to the unknown base, 3-methoxy-4,5-methylenedioxyamphetamine.

Does anyone know the feasibility of Shulgin's musings? He doesn't mention it anywhere else.

Nutmeg contains both myristicin and elemicin in quantity. Perhaps in a place where it was legal one could mix together ammonia and nutmeg, then do an A/B to extract the newly formed alkaloids?

If this was true then surely people wouldn't bother with the long drawn out complicated processes they currently use to manufacture these substances. Just 2 OTC precursors?! Sounds too good to be true.

Also isn't discussing syntheses here against the rules?

..I think you are right..we talk about making LSH though, but I think it's allowed because it exists in nature already..not really sure

Yeah I think of LSA -> LSH like I do DMT N-oxide -> DMT, as they say in the fresher seeds they are more abundant with LSH and as they got older it degrades to LSA... I'm sure I read that somewhere.

But also to declarify my prior doubts, I realise that I read "MMDA" as MDMA and when I saw "TMA" I immediately thought "TMA-2" before even begining to think they are different substances from the one's mentioned, as I know nothing of synthesis I don't have the knowledge to contribute here. You can see why I came to that conclusion though.... figuring it as MDMA from nutmeg and ammonia... Rolling eyes

Silly me.

I don't think it as simple as adding ammonia. This is analogous to making MDA straight from safrole, and I don't think that works simply by adding ammonia either.

There's a method to convert safrole directly into MDMA, check it out and you'll get an idea of the reagents & procedures needed for such an operation.

Check out the rhodium archives on erowid. It's an article named "direct aminomercuration of safrole".

If you put the mixture in a pressure cooker it works. The thing is that the reaction has a yield of only a few percent, so if you want it to work properly you got to do it with large amounts and then do an extraction.
But it definately works.

Is it easy enough then to convert TMA to TMA 2?

Downright impossible.

Well not impossible but so complicated that it's not worth your while.

Figured as much. Always been quite excited about the sound of TMA 2 though.
