So I've been wondering about this for a while now. I'm a huge fan of CBD in cannabis, and prefer medical breeds (sometimes with 1:1 CBD/THC content or higher) to high-potency, all-THC ones. It just makes the experience so much friendlier and more sensual.

So I've been wondering what CBD supplementation might do to an entheogen trip. I'm getting some CBD oil, and will probably run a few experiments, but I'm interested in any experience others might have to share.

Being an antipsychotic, probably CBD will reduce the potency of entheogens, but with the positive effect it has on the quality of a THC high, I kinda expect something more out of a CBD + shrooms or CBD + DMT combo than just "less of the same".

There's nothing in the pharmacology of CBD that would lead me to believe that it would interfere or reduce the psychedelic actions of any entheogen.

CBD acts as a partial agonist of the 5-hydroxy-tryptamine-1a receptor (5HT1a receptor)*:
(CBD also acts as an indirect antagonist of CB1/CB2 agonists, and CBD is also an allosteric modulator of Mu and delta opioid receptors )

Quote:
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychotomimetic compound from Cannabis sativa which induces anxiolytic- and antipsychotic-like effects in rodents. These effects could be mediated by facilitation of the endocannabinoid system or by the activation of 5-HT1A receptors. As either of these mechanisms could promote adaptation to inescapable stress, the aim of the present work was to test the hypothesis that CBD would attenuate the autonomic and behavioural consequences of restraint stress (RS). We also investigated if the responses to CBD depended on activation of 5-HT1A receptors.

The anti-psychotic medications which would potentially diminish activity of psychedelics are 5HT2a receptor antagonists, like clozapine, olanzapine, quetiapine, risperidone, sertindole, and so on...

The potential anti-depressant or anti-psychotic effects of CBD are facilitated by different means all together. It's the partial agonism of the 5HT1a receptor which is thought to contribute to the anti-depressant or anti-psychotic effects of CBD. (Most entheogens are also agonists of the 5HT1a receptor)

Unless whatever else you are taking also uses the same THC/CBD receptor sites as Cannabinoids, I do not think there would be any diminished potency.
Let us declare nature to be legitimate. All plants should be declared legal, and all animals for that matter. The notion of illegal plants and animals is obnoxious and ridiculous.

I have been interested about this combination as well, as I also imagined that it could take away some edginess that tripping can bring. I am usually super sensitive to cannabis and the anxiety it can produce.
So I had some CBD oil(from industrial hemp) lying around, and tested a few drops, that actually gave me buzz, which was kind of suprising because most sources I found claim, that CBD on its own(without THC)doesnt produce psychoactive effects. The high wasnt as easy on me as I had hoped, it actually made me tense up and I had to work through some emotional baggage to be able to relax. It was interesting, but not what I hoped it would be for me. I guess my cannabinoid system must be super sensitive..

After this experience I dropped my plans to combine it with psychedelics.

I have been on pretty high doses of oral CBD oil on and off for a while now, with a prescription to deal with pretty bad inflammation from an aggressive spinal arthritis and neuromuscular disorder in my pelvis. The doses I take are usually around the doses prescribed for cancer patients..which is high.

I have been using LSD fairly frequently as well, and I do not notice any decrease in the LSD effects..for whatever that is worth. Most people I encounter are not using doses that high of CBD. For clarity, I am referring only to pure CBD, lacking relevant levels of THC, THCVA etc..

My gf takes it..her roommate takes it..we all take LSD and trip just fine Smile

I think your good Smile

BTW, CBD is not without perceivable effects. It's not stoning like THC, and does not get you high..it's extremely anxiolytic and relaxing. There is no burn out IME, nor does it effect my ability to dream or make me tired.

How much CBD are you dosing each day? If you cannot tell by weight, how much by size? Are you finding that it works well for you?

At my heaviest use I was using about 1/5th of a syringe of phoenix tears a day...which is not cheap.

As far as how well it works..depends on what you want it for. I have an auto immune disease that was causing neuropathy in my leg and foot with burning nerve pain and numb toes etc... I don't want to take the opiates I was prescribed, and so far have not needed to.

Works for me...but not on it's own. It's an adjunct to physio, massage and yoga.

Il tell yall a story. The first time I tried the CBD I had left the hospital in a lot of pain, couldn't feet parts of my foot..sent away and told to take opiates for the pain. I was having really bad panic attacks due to anxiety over the whole issue..I was trying to run a landscape crew in that state and not doing so well..depressed after a huge fight with my gf and we had not spoken in a week. I walked into a cannabis clinic probly looking like complete hell with my hospital discharge papers and showed them to the Dr and he signed me up right there with a prescription.

I took the syringe of CBD oil, which I was told to dose at around a rice grain sized blob to start..well about 1/4 of the whole syringe shot out into my mouth and I got a bit alarmed. I called my friend from another clinic and she just told me to get into bed and put on music and get ready to relax.

Within 10 minutes I realized I had no pain at all in my body. My back which was so stiff it felt fused like a 2x4 was relaxed and I could move it..the neuropathic burning was gone..only the numbness remained. I had a hernia in my pelvis from the inflammation causing muscles to tear that was pretty painful as well, and that pain was also non existent suddenly..but the main thing I noticed was that for the first time in my life aside from maybe certain moments on psychedelics or MDMA, I was 100% anxiety free. I have suffered from really bad anxiety my whole life, and suddenly it was just gone. I must have lay there in a blanket smiling for 6 hours in a state of real true peace.

CBD has the potential to be one of the most valued anti inflammatory, pain relieving and anti anxiety medications available..but atm the cost of daily use at that dose level is too much for most people, myself included to ever afford for a sustained period of time. Hopefully with a growing market and wider acceptance of the substance that will change.

I got my pain and inflammation under control now after working with a skilled Dr who knows what they are doing and I no longer use CBD daily...but I will the moment I feel I need it.

It's not good for every disease out there however..and I have been told by a nutritionist at a cannabis dispensary and cancer research center that CBD can actually be a bad thing to be taking in that way if you have breast cancer for instance. I don't know what that would be. Apparently THC is the better choice there. So, it's a personal thing and every body is going to need different things. If it works for you, then that's great Smile

That is fantastic that it works that well for you. I use it to help with chronic back and neck pain. I have a ruptured disk in lower back. I usually put about a half a grain of rice worth in a gell cap and swallow it with some water and it really helps to relieve not only the pain, but relax the tight muscles causing the pain and reduce the inflammation. Cannabis is good medicine.
