These studies can feel comforting. It can feel safer to think that if we could just give abusive men a drug, then we can stop the epidemic of violence that destroys and ends lives. But I often think that these studies give one group of people the most comfort – and that's the violent men themselves. Because whenever we say to men that they can't help their violent actions, then we are reassuring them that their behaviour will be tolerated. We’re saying that we’re willing as a society to accept the causes and consequences of male violence as a fact of life. It's not.

People who do not have any alarming characteristics of being drug users are now using LSD with the idea that it will not have any ill affect. It concerns the police because this group has not had any experience with drugs nor drug users before, and it seems to be just a trend like any other.

On the Facebook page of the capital area police, they emphasize the consequences of LSD, saying, “If you spend a night in prison after using this drug, you got off easy.”

Shaun Maki, 29, faces second-degree felony charges of drug trafficking, manufacturing drugs and drug possession. He is also charged with one count of child endangering.

Investigators reported finding more than 100 doses of psychedelic mushrooms in Maki's apartment, along with a shotgun.
