thanks for the feedback and kind words I appreciate it Smile

Dvst, I have been writing on ableton 8 for about 5 years now and used ableton 7 for a couple years before that... i really like ableton 8 and havent found any need to upgrade to 9.. some of the changes I found undesireable

the only real vst I use these days is sylenth1 and I mainly use that for bass.. I use a couple ableton pads here and there for ambience but for the most part my sound is made up of both recorded samples, a few midi samples and lately i've been using audio capture to grab a few cool percussive sounds off movies and tv shows and then running them through ableton..

i usually just mess around with samples and keep splicing them into new audio tracks and working off those.. eventually I will end up with like 10 different samples all made from the one sample .. all through audio splicing. i find it a pretty quick approach to writing and since most of the samples are somehow made out of each other it kind of gives a unique harmony to everything

the guitar I record is unfortunately usually done straight through the interface as I don't have a good guitar amp to record with the mic.. so I feel at times the sound can be a bit tacky. i really didnt like the chorus on the guitar motif in the first half of the track

inspiration-wise a lot of things have contributed to my inspiration.. psychedelics definitely being one of the stronger candidates as well as heaps of the music within the psytrance scene has changed my way of looking at music.. mother nature plays her role as the natural beauty around me often is what makes me feel the most inspired.. and also being a bit heartbroken plays its part too!

i really liked that track Dvst.. really calming vibes.. nice clean sound

yeah the direct sound isn't too bad... though I don't find the distortions on ableton do a good guitar amp justice.. though from the perspective of a producer that shouldn't matter too much as the sound can be infinitely tweaked depending on ones knowledge

i really don't like the eq in ableton 9 (or any ableton for that matter though) .. i don't like how you have to go through so much more clicking just to do something that one click of the mouse could do in previous versions.. like a simple low or hi cut..

i also get a bit confused by groove pool, which I understand is much more extensive in its capabilities, but I miss the "swing" function up next to the metronome from ableton 7 where you could just wind it up and it would automatically apply swing to the master track

glad you got some inspiration out of the track.. its been eternally tinkered with that one.. still not entirely satisfied with it but I gotta move on

I actually just put a newer version of it up changed a few things with bass and percussion in the first half

Music is alive and in your soul. It can move you. It can carry you. It can make you cry! Make you laugh. Most importantly, it makes you feel! What is more important than that?

All very nice work here! Well done guys!

I'm a FL Studios guy myself and have been working with it since version 5 (currently on v.12). I'm just a "one man band" as of now and have been progressively upgrading equipment as the years go by...still nothing impressive but it is better than no equipment right?

Very happy

I just picked up a new Taylor Acoustic/Electric about 1.5 months ago or so and have yet to write a tune with it...in fact, I haven't completed anything new since the end of last year. Just a lot of half baked ideas but this thread is inspiring me to get back to work!
