So my Ps Tampanensis need to be stored while I get everything set up to grow sclerotia (I have to get a new pressure cooker. Sad ). I normally throw (okay I place them, not throwing them Very happy ) them into a zip lock bag and pop them in the fridge until it is time to inoculate. This has always worked in the past and I am fine with keeping it that way.

My question(s) is/are (out of pure curiosity):

Is there a better or "best" way to store your spore syringes?

What method allows the spores to stay viable the longest?

Thank you

Particularly the crisper in your fridge. I held onto them for 6 months and got a BETTER yield on the second go. Spores in syringe in ziplock in cardboard box in crisper in fridge.

Right on man, thanks for the tip! I've used all my Tampanensis spores but have one syringe with GTs left that I may use soon (to look at under a microscope of course..Very happy ). I keep them pretty much the way you describe minus the cardboard. Sclerotia has been an interesting endeavor so far, but cubes are something I am much more familiar with.

Congrats on the full membership by the way!

Finally started some Golden Teachers to supplement the stones using an all in one colonization/Fruiting chamber technique I saw over at the shroomery forum:

Never tried this technique before so it should be interesting!

I used to think the same thing about shrooms, but after doing it, I can say it's easier than it seems. All good things require a little work, which I don't mind and enjoy especially when I know there's a reward at the end. All in all, it's about learning, developing a relationship with the plant teacher's. Wink

"You reap what you sow" and in this case it is sowing magic! Very happy

I love doing it myself, that way I know exactly what has gone into it and as Spaced Out said, the reward for doing it carefully and properly is just beautiful. It has become one of my favorite hobbies (even though I had not been able to do it for years until last year).

Not to mention, sclerotia is so simple. Inoculate and set it aside for a few months and let it do its thing. All you have to watch for is possible contamination every once in a while.

the way we do it its not.

alot of stuff works.
but, not all teks are straight and direct and efficient.

decades of experience, led us to understand,
its actually easy to grow both sclerota and whole shrooms.
just simply ignore all the harry potter teks.
all points for the crop, zero for how its done.

never understood why so many peeps do the hard way teks,
and, get the typical handful with a trich ending encore......
after massive supplies and energy use.
baffling.

im just a big believer in hyper fast cacti and shrooms.
my teks lean toward efficiency and speed in the extreme.

the theme of the day, is "biomass yesterday" around here.

All in all, I was only able to harvest 10 jars which = 151g dry. A low yield for sure from what I've read but I am not disappointed. That will last my lady and I quite a long time. Several of the jars from the first batch yielded next to nothing due to stalling out because of lack of moisture. The second batch was where most of the weight came from. I also had to throw out some jars due to contamination but I am learning more and more about stone making...I didn't use an SAB and I've never worked with rye grains before this experiment. I need to go pick up a vacuum sealer so I can store the rest. I have bioassayed these stones twice and shared the trip reports here:
