..this thread's for people to post Historic tracks that really innovated, established or began an archetype or genre of Trance (or Techno), which may since have become formularic or ubiquitous.

it's for the old-timers, the new-comers, the curious, musicologists, and dancers Smile

and it's often refreshing to hear something that is completely originally inspired in the time..
.

___

right..i'll kick of with 'Trance' (an often abused term) and of course very mainstream these days
(without following any exact historical order)

a track which pretty much established a sound of Trance, particularly 'Goa Trance' is
the KLF's 'What Time Is Love?' (1988)

..i can see old the Towers of Rave now !

very influential...

i'm trying to remember what some of the underground German tracks which were a bit before or around this were...will dig them up when i get a chance,

for now though, here's another classic establisher of 'Trance', from Germany,
'Age of Love' (Jam and Spoon) (1991)

a Rave classic..

.

'Goa Trance' (and 'Forest Trance') lead to 'Psy-Trance',
of which one of the earliest archetypes would be
'Perception of Reality' by Psychaos (1994), a talented UK Sikh..

.

..all of this of course came from Acid House (which came from House and Techno)

of which one of the first cases was Phuture (from Chicago) ..here's 'Phuture Jack' (1987)

and for the start of the full 303 sound - 'Acid Tracks' (1987)

.

and if any track really took the concept of 'Acid House' to the next degree, and spawned the fields of TB303 craze of the late 80s/early 90s, it was
'Stakker Humanoid'

.

right..i'll dig into techno and house next time, but i know there's some deep experts on 'Techno' on the nexus Pleased

hope some of you get some enjoyment from these time capsules..
.

and please post any tracks you feel really inspired or influenced things, in different genres..including more recent, or completely different styles..

I'm lucky in that the city I live in has the longest running weekly psytrance events of any city in the world(apparently). It's been 10 years now without even going a week without a psy or goa party, all thanks to the efforts of a core group of older dj's(some from goa) and trance lovers.

Electronic bass music dominates the scene here, as it does the entire west coast of North America. I love bass and goa/psy both, but I spend much more time in the bass crowd..everything from heavy dubstep to ambient downtempo psy dub or temple step, glitch hop and I can stand some trap..sometimes... It's a huge part of my life.

The big festivals are mostly bass around these parts, with smaller 4-500 person psy and goa trance parties happening a couple times a year up in the mountains outside the city. My first real multi day rave was a psytrance festival years ago. It was only after that introduction that I got into bass music at a later date.

We know our roots, however.

What I really love is getting to meet the 40 something year old people, or older I encounter at festivals who really remember the early 90's etc. I remember looking in on the whole scene from the outside. I was too young to experience the rave culture of the early to mid 90's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bboe1FRs2nI

I have seen Simon DJ a number of times, but never a hallucinogen set...and I missed his younger brother set at shamb.

I did however catch a great merkaba set Smile

Id kill for a good aphex twin set.

Long live the unwoke.

and how far we have come?..

People either love the guy or hate the guy. I love it..it's not trance but it's the most energetic and raw experiences I have had in the realm of electronic music. You just gotta be there in person..

I've seen Simon DJ a Shpongle set, which was great, but the full band takes it to a whole other level...

Shpongle (full band) at Red Rocks was among the best nights of my life Smile

The Alpha and the Omega:

“I sometimes marvel at how far I’ve come - blissful, even, in the knowledge that I am slowly becoming a well-evolved human being - only to have the illusion shattered by an episode of bad behaviour that contradicts the new and reinforces the old. At these junctures of self-reflection, I ask the question: “are all my years of hard work unraveling before my eyes, or am I just having an episode?” For the sake of personal growth and the pursuit of equanimity, I choose the latter and accept that, on this journey of evolution, I may not encounter just one bad day, but a group of many.”

This isn't a historic track, just an incredible reminder of what is being made right now!

The track below had a pretty big influence on my musical tastes at the time (i also loved the KLF)

and these

Can we have ambient house? The chill room used to be a staple at a lot of raves. i wouldnt know where to start with ambient as (like so many forms of music) it has so many early innovators but the 2 below struck a chord at first listen

very influential....

..it’s so good to see the guard of the old soldiers benzyme there
i thought of calling you out, from your facility or wherever..kudos to you..let's break, c'mon !

let’s rave on for peace ! !
.
..outstanding contribution to trance meme time capsule retrieval hug46, i salute you.
i think the Irresistible Force deserve special mention there..
and Steve Hillage..i met him once, lovely chap..i told him my favourite work of his was 'Fish Rising' and he looked quite pleased..

and Man From Chan Chan…much to sonically contemplate in your posts there is Smile
..awesome and broad in reach.. bow.

you know, i think when we have deep stored memories , of key moments in the cosmic cycles , that are associated with a particular piece of music, then they function like time capsules in a way…like strings to points…backwards in time, and from then to now…keys...also, with many ‘historical’ tracks, they are a quantum jump spontaneous intuitive archetype of a meme of sorts, so they are immediately and enthusiastically imitated, and built on or given analogues of, till we reach copies of copies…some kind of code evolution

..Irresistible Force (and era) reminds me of an all time early goan trance anthem, which was directly influenced by smoking dmt..
The Infinity Project - ‘Feeling Weird’ (originally 1993),

(was Graham Wood, Raja Ram, and Martin ‘man with no name’ Freeland)

yes ommani, Simon Posford has sculpted a true musical career and path from the days of goa trance and butterfly studios..his favourite band before beginning to make trance was Ozric Tentacles

and jamie mate Smile ..what can i say…you knock at the gates of the boundaries as you do well..

thanks all,

it’s been a great set-list so far…

keep it comin’ nexian knowledge keepers

peace and unity…..see the towers..
.

Very nice topic !
I was researching the origins of Goa/Psy-Trance just 2 month ago (I am in the scene since 1998,the year Goa turned to Psytrance...(there also was a lot of Goa at the partys).

I made a set just with tracks from 1994/1995 (we listend a lot to them on older GoaHead Samplers...)

Bum Bum
Very happy

Thanks Nen, you're very welcome!

And speaking of Detroit, almost forgot this, it's like it could have been written with this place in mind Big grin

Fish Rising is a great album Nen. That and Green.

Acerperience used to tear up dancefloors when it came out. Although the snareroll build up tunes became very formulaic.

Dj/Producer for 28yrs now.

This track kicked it all off (for me)

It was the precursor to hip hop and subsequently all electronic dance trax.
(Yeah, I know I'm old)

Right up to today when this track rocks my world.

And Hug...right there with you with Aceperience, Turnmills' floor shook hard.
