tomorrow the supreme court of mexico will discuss an law amendment project to allow growth and smoke cannabis for people 18+ years, as far as i know (as a lawyer) this amendment project is awesomely done because it will still ban the sell and distribution of the plant but will allow it users to grow 6 plants per run and smoke only at home, also transport 10g from one place to other.

this means:

- not medical dispenssries will be alowed at any time soon, so pharmaceutical companies will not join the market and create monopolization of it.
- human rights to choose what is better for your own will be intact.
- users would dont have to risk themselves while trying to get some weed on the black market and with ugly people.
- government still have the empowerment to arrest and judge anyone who is involved in traffic, distribution and sale of the product.

this leaves open for me some question:

- how would government will control the safety and quality of the seeds?
- does sanitary and medical government departments will verify the quality and safety of what consumers are growing?
- if any consumer gets harmed because of bad growth (bad pesticides and other stuff used to speed the process) who will be there to be blamed?

for me this is a great step for my country, i hope this goes well tomorrow at the project discussion.

also i dont smoke weed Smile

Do report back on how it goes! Sounds like a far more approachable, just and effective model against prohibition. I wish my own country would even consider such an amendment, but fear that the factors of control and revenue will be too tempting for our government to look past. Perhaps with more countries employing a successful approach to recreational use will open the minds and eyes of those closer to home. Smile

Awesome, thanks for sharing! This goes very well with the potentially impending Canadian legalization. Hopefully all of North America will legalize, then onto the rest of the world! Laughing

I think we did a pretty good job with the anti prohibition legislation just enacted in Oregon. It preserves the ability for the long time players to stay in the game and addresses the points you outlined, OP. We're still hammering out the details, but it's already changed the landscape here

This is really cool especially since Canada is doing it and hopefully Mexico follows it would definitely reduce cartel related crime on both sides of the border and hopefully all goes well.

It's not going to happen, the cartels are in charge in Mexico.

I hate having to deal with ugly people. Laughing

Seriously though, it sounds promising. With Canada and an increasing number of American states looking to legalize, it may end up being legal accross all of N. America within a few years.

While there are "cartel grows" in the west coast, which is what it sounds like: a narco cartel like la familia setting up a large outdoor marijuana op. These are always environmentally compromising, to put it nicely, & cause egregious damage to the forests in which they are grown. I think must of that pot goes on the local, street level market.

That said, I'm not sure how much marijuana is part of these cartel's financial motivation for operating. However,nI don't know if they still smoke Mexican pot back east.

America is the reason the cartels exist, but it's not because they are selling weed. But if Mexico and Canada begin squeezing from the north and south, and the states that have repealed prohibition are example to the effectiveness and downright sensibility of legal pot, then maybe the conversation around developing a sensible distribution system for hard drugs to people who present with demonstrable addictions to them will open the door to rational drug policy here and worldwide, and the killing can stop.

Then again. How long have we been killing babies in Afghanistan now? Officially?
Wut?

Keep the ball ( and those joints) rolling, Mexico!Thumbs up

my only question is, if no person/company/organization is allowed to sell marijuana in any way how are people expected to acquire their marijuana they don't have the ability to grow? Some people are incapable of growing a lawn let alone a marijuana plant at the quality/potency they desire. Those people IMO will still goto the drug dealers negating the outcome that is desired by the government.

im with you, perhaps getting seeds at a botanical store will do the job, this is part of what our legislative parties shall start thinking on.

its gonna be a long way but i hope it starts soon.

also my brother and i are planning that when the law change we will start a school of hydroponic weed growing, everything legal, we wont sell any stuff other than minerals and other things needed for the growth of healthy plants, also he has been growing his own when he lived in canada, this way we can be in touch with something we like and educating people in a responsible and legal way.
