today i went to watch a documentary called little saints, eat a mushroom, this was produced by the friend of a friend of mine, the documentary is about the ritual of mushroom intake that happen in Oaxaca, mexico, i didnt knew that this healers as they are called have a mixed ritual based on catholicism and they suggest you pray to god and other saints while you are under mushy effect, this approach was very weird to me because results in a paradox where religion says you shall not use any substance that may harm or alter your conciousness and this healers mixing mushymushy with god.

the documentary focus on the very ritual on 5 persons ans is very explicit of how they react to it and the healer helping them to go through this experience, it does not have a scientific part of how does the psylocibin interact with the body, but if you are interested in knowing more about how mushrooms are procured by the healer to an unexperienced user, you might take a look at this.

It's not a bad movie. An interesting documentation of a syncretic indigenous/catholic entheogen practice. I saw it when the director screened it in my town, he's a real nice guy. I'm glad this film is making the rounds.

I went to the viewing some months back, said hi to the filmmaker and spoke a bit with Paul Kroeger who was a guest speaker and local psilocybe expert mycologist. It was a nice night. The harsh catholic undertones of the ceremonies are far too sterile for myself though.
Long live the unwoke.

ive made to Oliver the same question about why does catholic ritual is embedded on the healing, he said it was because of spain-mexico colonization, my question was focused to if there was a healer who can perform the ritual without mixing it with religious belief, he answered that he knows other healers that will do it and others who dont but specially Natalia the healer on the movie wont separate the ritual.

i think i would feel very unconfortable with a religious mushroom induced ritual, im not against god or anything, i just dont believe it is the way i would want it to be on me because im not really a believer.

I met Oliver when he showed this in Seattle - he gave my wife and I free tickets. I enjoyed the movie a lot. He was a nice guy too - friendly and fun to talk to.
