A girl and her sister, they were both beautiful
They lived happily in the woods of golden glow
Until their mother got sick and died one fateful night
And they had but one another to get through the blight
What came next was an awful curse that demanded one of them
And the girl said she would go to save her beloved friend
Her little sister, the only person in the world that she had left
But her sister cried bitterly and asked to be taken instead

But it was too late, oh it was too late
The girl had sealed her fate
Frozen in time and space her sister remained
While the girl went through the gate

Into another world
She was abruptly hurled
All her memories stolen
And replaced by lies
Along with her face
Another one in its place
So that she wouldn't
Remember a thing

But the hole in her heart remained
She traveled the world in vain
There was no place anywhere in the world
There was no home for the poor lost girl

Anywhere she went
Any way she bent
Everything felt wrong
Nowhere did she belong

But her love was stronger than the spell
And after a lifetime of dreaming
She woke up to remember her home and tell
Herself she would make it back believing

There was a way
But for now she had to stay
Going back on her own
Out she would be thrown

Unless she was prepared

A little by little she started to remember
A little by little the dream she lived faded away
Her mother had taught her about herbs and magic ember
And she found the right dream herbs to take

And she dreamt with her eyes open
To see the reality behind her dream veil

And her sister was still waiting and her tiny nose
Pretty face and skin so very pale
Made the girl cry and through her teary eyes
She promised her soon she would be home again

In her dream within a dream
Her sister whispered her real name in her ear
And so the spell was broken
And everything started to gleam
With the colour of deception, it was clear it was mere
Illusion from which she had been woken

But unless sent by a great great force
Travel between was not easy of course
There were things in place built to prevent her
From traveling and staying, but she decided she would enter
At the bane of death
Because life without a home and love
Was like holding her breath
Until she would drown

So a frowning power above
Said it would allow it
When her mind was ready

But not a moment before
At hearing this she wore
Her tears of happiness with pride

She had found her!
Oh she had found her!
She had found her sister and her home
A little longer!
A little longer!
And then she would no longer be alone

The girl went back into her world
And the house was empty
Frightened she asked where her sister was
The power appeared before her
And told her it didn't know
She said "How can you not know?"

To which it replied:
"I am but a dweller
In my realm as you in yours
My powers that seem great to you
Are tiny on a larger scale
I do not know all things
In all the worlds
But now you have a choice to make"

The girl calmed her mind
And ask the power that be
"What choice is it you would have me make?"

The power spoke to her:
"You can go back to your dream
And I can send her there
You can see her and feel her
And hear her, be near her
But to anyone else in that world
She will not exist"

The girl was confused
"How can that be?
Where is her body
Would she be real?"

The power replied:
"Her body was also sent
to another world
Yours or some other
That I do not know."

The girl asked:
"If I speak to her there
Will she hear me?
Will my words carry to her?"

The power pondered and said:
"As far as I know
When she remembers
She will remember
Every word
From every life
And every dream
You ever spoke to her."

The girl began to understand
the veils of time and space
And memory and perception
"She will remember
Like I remembered her?
I will speak to her in her dreams?"

The power smiled at the girl
"Now you're starting to see!"

The girl interjected
"It's all a dream and it's all real?"

"Precisely!" The power exclaimed.
"You must find her in one of the worlds
And when both your bodies inhabit the same plane
You will be together in all aspects of your essence."

The girl thought about it
"Is there another way?"

The power was silent
And then spoke again
"Reality is like a cake
With different layers
Some are soft and some are hard
Some are light, some are dark
Some taste like vanilla, some like cocoa
Dreams and universes held together by love
You must find a baker
Or become one yourself
Then you can bake the cake you want
If no objections are presented."

The girl thought for a mo
And a while longer
The she spoke again
"Thank you, friend
I understand now.
I will practice baking
Starting right now."

Her sister appeared beside her
And proudly she asked the power:
"How is that for my very first cake?"

The power laughed
And said
"Very well done!
But it lacks the connection
To other worlds!
Let me just sprinkle this sugar"
And the power held out an arm of sorts
And a light lit up in the little sister's eyes
"It is done. Enjoy your piece
and go and find the rest of the cake
when you're ready."

The girl smiled.
"Thank you. I feel tired from the baking. Please send us back?"

The power granted the wish
And the girl woke up next to her sister
In what she now knew was a dream world
Not where she grew up
But where she was sent
And one day
She would wake up next to her sister
Body and mind
And they would both remember
Somewhere in the layers of the cake
They would make their home
Once again

(Reality is what you make (bake) of it.)
