Recently picked up Peter Gorman's new book, Sapo in my Soul.
Its a nice, quick read in which Gorman beautifully (as always) describes his forays into the Amazon jungle with the Matses, how he was the first westerner to report/use/bring back sapo, details the effects and benefits, the science behind why these effects occur, as well the proper way to apply it and reasons why other methods of application may lead to poor experiences. There's plenty of nice photographs as well.
I'd reccomend it to anyone interested in sapo/kambo, it's less than twenty bucks too.

I've had a couple experiences with kambo. I definitely would like to pick this up for a read though, it's got me curious. Thanks for the heads up!

Would you mind elaborating on the benefits ? i don't understand what is good about kambo. Burn your skin and then apply a dot of Sapo, then effects appear toxic, and un-enjoyable. iam not knocking it, since i haven't tried it, but i dO nOt cOndOne the torturing of frogs ! *ALL WAYS WITH LOVE

Yah, but it's easier to ask someone trustworthy here about benefits.. or disadvantages. Contents (from shaman-extracts) The dried secretion contains up to 7% potently active peptides - phyllocaerulein, phyllomedusin, phyllokinin, dermorphins (selective mu opioid receptor agonists) and deltorphins (selective delta opioid receptor agonists). Phyllomedusin is a new peptide of the tachykinin family. Phyllomedusin strongly affects the salivary glands, tear ducts, intestines, and bowels, and contributes to violent purging. Tachykinins are active peptides which excite neurons, evoke behavioral responses. They are potent vasodilators and secretagogues, and Phyllomedusin contract (directly or indirectly) many smooth muscles. Phyllomedusin is secreted protein and expressed by the skin glands. *ALL WAYS WITH LOVE

Quote:Would you mind elaborating on the benefits ? i don't understand what is good about kambo. It's powerful and very beneficial, but not for everybody...sound familiar?! More info“I sometimes marvel at how far I’ve come - blissful, even, in the knowledge that I am slowly becoming a well-evolved human being - only to have the illusion shattered by an episode of bad behaviour that contradicts the new and reinforces the old. At these junctures of self-reflection, I ask the question: “are all my years of hard work unraveling before my eyes, or am I just having an episode?” For the sake of personal growth and the pursuit of equanimity, I choose the latter and accept that, on this journey of evolution, I may not encounter just one bad day, but a group of many.” ― B.G. I took 4 dots, last year in August. Since then i've never been sick a single day, which is kind of unusual for me, mostly i catch at least one cold in winter. I need less sleep. I have less fears, feel more powerful in mind, and more potent (creativly and sexually).
Kambo/Sapo is Superfood for the whole system, an immune system booster, and a helpful spirit doctor. In my mind the frog is connected to Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. Like Ganesha the force of the frog is slow but steady, strong like a glacier, crashing everything in its way.

you're quite welcome, dreamer and tattvamasi. I went back and searched for your kambo report, tatt, quite interesting. Have you had any experiences with kambo since then? MaNoMaNoM wrote:Would you mind elaborating on the benefits ? i don't understand what is good about kambo.

iam not knocking it, since i haven't tried it, but i dO nOt cOndOne the torturing of frogs ! Well, I don't feel too comfortable relaying a lot of information/quotes straight from the book, as selling books is one way Gorman earns a living financially, but he gives plenty of anecdotal evidence in which Sapo does appear to help strengthen the immune system much in the same way Ryusaki explains. He has used it on friends, family, and of course himself over the course of many, many jungle ailments which have occured to him such as: Gorman wrote:malaria, dengue, a bushmaster bite, a septic spider bite that opened holes in my legs and arms, and an intestinal rupture that resulted in septicemia and should have killed me. And then I've had several bacterial flesh-eating episodes[...]I would have survived several of them whether or not I had ever done sapo, but I don't think I would have survived them all if I had not been doing Sapo fairly regularly. I believe- and I've got no scientific proof, just my heart-that i survived and thrived because my body had been cleaned up by sapo before, during, and after these events and illnesses. I wasn't too familiar with sapo/kambo before I read the book, but it does indeed sound like an interesting medicine. I recently gave up all caffeine/stimulants and go through episodes of major brain fog, i feel thus instantly drawn to this medicine to help bring awareness back to my self. I've been dabbling with the idea of going with Gorman on one of his tours should the opportunity/money ever come up.

Thanks a lot for sharing this, I've long been interested in kambo and it's something I reckon I'll look into doing at some point in the future. I very may well get this book!

Just finished reading it, engaging, some good info, and some dark glimpses of jungle life... Quote:At San Juan, the most accessible camp on the Gálvez, most of the Matsés not only had new Western clothing, but they had begun to refer to those Matsés who continued to live deep in the jungle as animales, animals. “I sometimes marvel at how far I’ve come - blissful, even, in the knowledge that I am slowly becoming a well-evolved human being - only to have the illusion shattered by an episode of bad behaviour that contradicts the new and reinforces the old. I've just returned from the Amazon, where I took three dots of Sapo. It was horrible, but worthwhile I'm sure. "Better safe than sectioned."
