I weigh about 135 pounds, have never tried salvia. Regular recreational user of cannabis. Salvia leaf was ground to a powder and 1g of powderized leaf was packed into a deep pipe (tobacco pipe).

It should be noted that I had eaten and smoked cannabis about 3 hours before this experience.

I have read about "breakthroughs" of some sort on salvia, and, having never found nor tried DMT, I was rather excited about this potential experience. I read that the leaf is far less potent than any extract would be, and due to the rapid metabolization of salvinorin, one must consume a considerable amount of the leaf in a very short amount of time, holding the smoke for upwards of 20 seconds to allow full absorption of the psychoactives.

I settled on the floor in my closet, with my back against the wall. I lit the leaf and pulled hard, holding the lighter close and hot the entire time. I held the bitter smoke for 20 seconds before exhaling and taking another massive pull. The second puff was held for 20 seconds. By the time I rose the pipe to take another pull, I noticed a strange, almost cinematic feeling about the lighting in my closet. I only managed a half-hearted pull before I gave up and let the pipe fall from my mouth. I looked around to see a very colorful world about me. The open-eye visuals were minimal and reminiscent of those I experienced after consuming psilocin. So, I closed my eyes in hopes that the CEVs would be more pronounced, and they really were. I saw a large fractal-eye shape in the distance, by where my feet would be if my eyes were open. The shape got closer and began to sort of surround me and I burst my eyes open at the powerful sensation. the remainder of the trip was rather uneventful, the peak being only a few minutes of rather intense physical sensation accompanied by mild visuals and a childish stupor. Once I returned to (almost) baseline, I opted to take another little trip.

I again packed around a gram of powderized leaf in a pipe and toked away, taking large pulls and holding them for what seemed like too long. And again, I never made it to a fourth pull, a now-familiar sensation creeping over me as I coaxed the third in to my lungs. The peak of this trip involved me curled into a ball laughing loudly at my inability to express what I was experiencing to my nearby friend. I still have trouble expressing it now. It was as if the whole house was cartoon-drawn and I was thrilled to be in it. But the stupor made me unable to think more deeply about it, and, upon an attempt to speak, I only laughed and laughed. Coming back to (almost) baseline in about 45 minutes, I opted for a third and final late-night trip.

I was alone for the third trip, and very excited to try it again, as I wanted to delve deeper into the experience, to try to fight the stupor. I "got there" by the same methods and where I was was a very strange place. I felt very heavy, almost in a trance-like state. And someone was relaying a message to me. Telling me something like "she wants you to come this way". I wanted rather badly to follow, but the sensation was fleeting, and, far too soon, the prompt became something like "She wants you to stay", and soon after that, there was no prompt at all, just a feeling of heaviness and emptiness about the room. I shortly thereafter went to sleep which proved a pitch-black canvas of nothingness as I didn't have a single dream. I imagine this is how stones sleep, if they do.

All of the trips are rather foggy and the exact sensation is very difficult to express. I plan to attempt to create some salvia extract for future use and plan to write a report on extract experiences as well. Thanks all!

Glad to see that you chose to start with plain leaf. Thumbs up Far too many people blast themselves into Salviapsace with a high end extract and it scares them off it for life.

I like how you illustrated, with the three successive trips, that the effects get more pronounced each time. Reverse tolerance, indeed. And with only plain leaf.

If/When you plan on doing an extraction you should read the tek gibran's posted here: https://www.dmt-nexus.me/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&m=178430#post178430

The final purification isn't absolutely necessary, unless you want pure salvinorin A Shocked

Salvia extractions are pretty simple, actually.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Wink

The last trip was undoubtedly stronger in sensation than the previous two. Thanks for the links and tips! Loving the Nexus

I made a crude salvia extract using isopropyl as the solvent. After evaporation, a green resin was left on the sides and a green powder with visible needlelike crystals in the center. I scraped up as much resin and powder as I could, as I planned to smoke the crude extract. I initially thought the tiny crystals were salvinorin, suggesting an extreme potency about the powder. However, upon smoking 5 and 10mg (approx) of the powder, no effects were noted. Even up to around 150mg produced only very mild salvinorin effects. This suggests that the crystals are not salvinorin and I plan to smoke a larger amount of thia extract in an attempt to gauge its strength. Anyone have any thoughts on why the salvia extract is not very effective and what those tiny crystals may be (considering a visible amount of salvinorin is an active dose)? Thanks

The crude extract produced only mild effects when smoked in considerable quantities, suggesting that the material was only about .3-.5% salvinorin by weight. Meaning my straight extract was similar to a 3x extract, which is disappointing. I hope to try a cold alcohol extraction in the future, hopefully with better results.

I agree with the previous poster in support of your decision to start out with plain leaf. Congratulations on your first steps into the salvia realm. This is a plant very very dear to my heart. I have found much wisdom in the lessons it's brought my way and appreciate me the intuitive flow it helps me fall into.

One suggestion I would make if you're interested in exploring the salvia realms further is to get a little bong that's dedicated to salvia. If you smoke weed out of the pipe you used, it's important to note that the resin will make you trip slightly which can be disconcerting if you don't know where it's coming from (and quite lovely if you do). I aim to hold my hits about 45 seconds. This can be accomplished by taking short shallow breaths while holding most of the smoke in your lower lungs (this is also helpful for DMT as well when it comes your way). I've also had the most success when I've followed one hit with another (breathe out and take your next hit before taking a regular breath).

Just keep going with it, there's no rush to get to your breakthrough. In the meantime, enjoy the salvia glow and slight psychedelic tinge it brings to you for the next couple days after smoking. I enjoy rolling plain leaf into cigarettes, which while wasteful of salvinorin is quite pleasant and creatively stimulating. You keep doing that for a week or two (if you don't smoke cigarettes, just a small bowl held for not too long or a pinch on top of weed) and then aim for a blast off after building up a level of salvinorin A in your system, I think you might find a lot of success.

Also, I don't know if you've tried this yet but music on headphones is good stuff, some of my favorites are Mum, Amiina, Sigur ros, and bjork (all icelandic... for some reason they make good salvia music), and lux moderna. Things with glitchy beats that have tinkling almost child like bells seem to work really well. As always follow your intuition, but give headphones a try.

Anhydrous acetone (as cold as your freezer will make it) is the preferred solvent for Salvia extractions. Isopropyl isn't the best choice. You can make acetone anhydrous by putting some epsom salts in the oven for a while to render magnesium sulfate, then add that to your acetone to make it dry. https://wiki.dmt-nexus.me/Rendering_Anhydrous_Magnesium_Sulfate

Here's what I typically do, it's fairly straight forward.

1.) Crush up 9 grams of leaf (for making 1 gram of 10x)
2.) Pour enough ice-cold acetone over the leaves to cover. Quickly mix for about 1 minute. Strain off the acetone and put aside.
3.) Repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 pulls.
4.) Combine pulls and let settle overnight (in complete darkness)
5.) Decant acetone leaving sediment behind.
6.) Place 1 gram of leaf in with the acetone and completely evaporate (mixing occasionally, in complete darkness)

This will give you a very potent and clean extract. The importance is on keeping it in the dark while the salvinorin A is in solution. While I'm doing the extraction I do it with very low light (40w bulb in a lamp on the other side of the room, indirect light) and when it's settling/evaporating I make sure it's in complete darkness. UV light will destroy the salvinorin A while it's dissolved in the acetone.

I use a french coffee press for the extractions, it's very simple and helps make your pulls as quick as possible. The longer the leaves sit in the acetone the more undesirable stuff will get pulled. And keeping it as cold as possible helps to that end as well. Just make sure the french press is all glass and metal, acetone melts plastics Thumbs up

Yes! Exactly what I done, one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I tried a smaller dose months later and it was equally scary. both times I had the feeling that the universe wasn't real and everything was one big joke on me. It was like pages of my life closing on me as I desperately tried to scramble out. Of course what I was actually doing was scrambling up the walls.

I'm glad you you are having more success with it and maybe one day I'll try again starting with the plain leaf.

Thanks for the tip on acetone! In further research, I noted that the use of a cold solvent is preferred in a salvinorin extraction, namely due to the decreased solubility of chlorophyll and other naturals at low temps. I hope to do another couple extractions, possibly make a smoking blend, and I'm really interested in tincture. I just had my first extract experience and it was... intense. not regrettably intense, but respectably intense.

I wonder a bit about "being scared off of salvia" and I'm not fully sure, whether this is because of the experience itself or due to some "property" of salvia or the way it works that is keeping people from doing it regularly. It is generally said to be non-addictive and the number of people to regularly indulge in salviaspace is marginal, but it appears in recent years it has found its connoisseurs.

Anyway, here is my little story on that: I've tried salvia when I was quite young (maybe 16) and just has been introduced to cannabis, but didn't had too many sources for that. Salvia was generally legal at that time, and it was easy to obtain different products from a guy who operated a mail-order shop and seemed particularly enthusiastic about salvia. So, I had really well dried leaf (it was brown and had a look/feel like tobacco), some fluid extract, and a live plant.

Yet, I smoked the bought and the grown leaf with only very minor effects: I generally was always thinking it is not doing anything, only years later when I tried a 10x extract, I realized what has been the effect the years ago.

I stored the fluid extract for a few years and tried it with a friend at college, again, very minor effects, barely noticeable closed-eye effects in as much drakness we could achieve, and they could have been placebo. We ended the experiment after a few hours and when I went outside to walk back to my place, I really enjoyed all the trees and plants next the boardwalk and the fresh, cold evening air, etc. But is was more like a nice, still subtle, afterglow, nothing really to be called an effect.

Then, I guess about two years later, I offered a friend to smoke some 10x extract (still legal back then) in a small hookah glass pipe. At that point, I had lost any much expectation into salvia, and we were mainly doing that because we had no weed.

It was a summer evening, with a lot of sun outside, so in no way the room could have been called "dark", but there was no direct sunlight coming in. Before smoking, I explained to my friend that one must not move in order to not make the effects go away, that one might be "gone" for a few minutes and that the total duriation will be roughly 15-20 min at max (not sure about this timing as I just write). Anyway, we agreed that I go first, and he will stay out of may way for 10 minutes and at the 10 minute mark would check on me.

So, I took one big toke, held it for a while, then took another one. I intended to hold it long and see if effects would set in. But I couldn't. Effects appeared pretty fast, so I could barely get the pipe out my hand. I leaned back and let me lie down on the bed I was sitting.

The beginning of the trip reminded me of psilocybe mushrooms (slightly off-topic: the mushrooms which initiated me were bought in Amsterdam, and they were quite small mushrooms, not like cubensis, and were packaged at 1.32g dried for 2 doses. If anyone could enlighten me on the Psilocybe species that could have been that, I would be very happy, have thought about that for years actually.)

On the mushroom trip, effects started after 15 min and took like 30-45 min to plateau at some strange but familar "place" or maybe "dimension". On the salvia trip, the initial fractal visuals were missing, but it took only seconds to get to the same place at which the mushrooms had plateau'ed. For the fraction of a second it felt like the idential place. But unlike the mushrooms, the salvia didn't stop there. Amazed, and with still eyes open, I could see the room, but gradually all boundaries between the outline of my body and the bed I was lying on ceased to exist, also all boundaries between all objects ceased to exist. My body, the bed, the room, the windows, and all other objects were like one single membrane. I found that all highly interesting, closed my eyes (no idea, how I did that, but I did) and only saw blackness with something very small in the far background, but I don't really remember what of if it was anything.

During that fast trip come on, I had zero fear, was highly interested and remember that I was like "hey, this is nice, manageable, and super interesting. probably, this is similar to DMT coming on, from what I've read. So after that, I'm finally ready to try some DMT".

Yet, as I had just closed my eyes and was waiting if any interesting vision might happen, my friend touched me and asked me how I was doing and if anything is happening. According to our prearragement I assumed that this means 10 minutes have passed, while I've experienced it like 30 seconds of going into the trip. This was when I panicked. I could not believe my sense of time got *that* distorted without me noticing anything in that regard.

I stood up, and the trip stopped completely. 100%. I was practically sober instantly. That's what still amazes me. It blasts you (in a quite pleasant, non-overwhelming way, at least for me at that dose) beyond physical reality, but you can get up and it stops instantly.

After reorienting myself, I checked a watch and talked to my friend and it turned out that maybe 1 or 2 minutes had passed and that he just poked me without sticking to our prior agreement.

So, lesson one: have experienced trip sitters (apart weed, that particular fired of mine never has done any psychedelics) or at least people that are able and conscious about sticking to agreements.

And to get back to the inital point: During the trip, everything was fine. The end was a bit rough, and I had some minor anxiety, I immediately knew what was going on and was still sure that this experience would free me of any hesitations regarding "breakthroughs", either on Salvia or DMT.

Yet, the next times, when I tried lower amounts of it, I more or less "freaked" a bit after smoking, had not much of an effect, but after maybe 3 further attempts, I've never touched the stuff again or have any intention to do so. I wonder why. So even if you don't freak due to the blast, it seems to have some kind of inherent "I have no interest in doing it again" quality.
nothing is true, it's all just imagination

I aimed for a good breakthrough-type dose of extract. I ended up with an experience that was like existing in multiple realities at once. It was almost as if the thoughts and scenarios in my head manifested themselves into my (rather spotty) reality. Quite intense in sensation, even confusing. I see where salvia could make people very scared and even irritable. I haven't tried it since, but I had some great LSD and the salvia didn't "taint" the experience in any form.
