Quick question regarding using activated carbon to clean up the solvent before a re x. I'm finding that some of the carbon actually dissolves in the solvent and then it passes through the coffee filter. Last time i filtered many times and I still ended up with grey spice and had to re x and filter again to get rid of it.

Is there a way to avoid this?

I think I may have solved it. Used a syringe with cotton wool stuffed inside instead of coffee filter. Seemed to do the job and got rid of the last bit of carbon. I'll use it from the get go next time.

You can also use diatomaceous earth, it helps the AC coagulate into larger particles and makes filtering a breeze

Great, how much would your recommend using? And I take it I just add it to the solvent after the carbon?

That, or just make a bed of it on top of the filter paper, you might need a vac filtration for that method though.

if you don't have a vac filtration apparatus, try just adding it to the solvent then waiting to see if the AC settles out, add more if it doesnt all settle

You want to do vac filtration with the carbon, and use carb prior to your first precip.

Using carbon with centrifuge (they're not badly priced tbh) you can get clear glass needlepoints every single time regardless of a/b / stb.
