A new species of lichen has been discovered in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest, according to a recent paper published in The Bryologist. Researchers led by lead author Michaela Schmull have tentatively identified tryptamine, psilocybin, and 5-MeO-DMT in the lichen!

Nice find.

This should go in this thread.

Interesting paper.

It was mentioned in the other thread.

As I posted there, they did not use reference standards, they used retention time (and UV spectra?) with HPLC-UV. Also when testing with LC-MS they did NOT seem to detect psilocybin (but based on spectra found 5-MeO-DMT, 5-MeO-NMT and 5-MeO-Tryptamine), which makes me wonder how reliable those results are.

Anyways definitely interesting.

I'm attaching the full paper.

It already is!

Knarrkorven was quick off the mark...

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."
