morning, i am about to do a cactus extraction and i was wondering what the differences are between pulling with toulene and limonene. is there much difference? im thinking that limo will give me a fuller spectrum extract but thats just a guess. I have both solvents so which way should i go? i may split the extraction in half and see what the difference is when i pull with each solvent. cheers INHALE, SURVIVE, ADAPT it's all in your mind, but what's your mind??? fool of the year

cheers I think you may get the same results with both limonene & tolulene. I'm dont have any cacti extraction experience so i may be wrong, but think dmt extractions. Tolulene, xylene, & limonene all pull jungle spice because they are less selective in the alkaloids they pull.

I've gotten similar yields from both xylene and d-limonene from the same material-although I haven't used toluene. I'd be interested to see the results if you do decide to do a side-by-side comparison. I doubt there will be much of a difference but judging by the xlogP table toluene has the potential to pull slightly more. .. https://wiki.dmt-nexus.me/XlogP however like the wiki page states its not that simple.

I have only encountered one issue with using limonene that would not occur with toluene: limonene contamination when salting the mescaline out of the solvent. When separating the mescaline-containing acidic aqueous solution from the solvent, any limonene that gets picked up with the aqueous layer will leave a very pungent citrus-scented residue on the mescaline crystals when the acidic solution is evaporated. Toluene evaporates cleanly without leaving any residue, so it eliminates this issue. However, I should mention that I have described this problem in other threads and nobody else seems to have had the same issue when using limonene.

I've had leftover limonene, just as I have had leftover toluene and xylene before. I'd much rather have bit of orange oil than xylene burps LOL.
Also, you can use dry cold IPA or acetone to wash that off the crystals.
As for the OP, I found those solvents to be pretty much equivalent, though I never did a side-by-side, it was in different extractions. Would be nice to see the results if anyone did a controlled side-by-side
