Never boiled/heated my rue, always powder soaking in usually HCL water pH 2, but not to drink that way, to further extract & ending with a fairly consisted 5% yield. Soaking for 2 to 3 days per pull + heavy shaking the rue whenever I pass the jar. This like 3 pulls.
I drank CWE rue before too. Made water + phosphoric acid till pH 3, powdered rue again, just 1 pull, 2 days soak + shaking now and then. Terrible taste indeed, horrible! Very effective though at 3 gr rue (max 4). I bet you had not the best yield with no-powder, but compensated for that with more rue at 7 grams. If you had good yield at 7 gr, oh my.....
One cant traditionally filter the rue powder, it will clog right away, just let settle + decant. Then filter the decantation, needing several coffee filters still. No vacuum filter setup at disposal.
